I remember watching my favorite's on local TV usually a John Wayne or Clint Eastwood western. I guess because of the guns they don't show them anymore. I've probably seen them 5 times but I would watch them again anyway. How about you guys, would you watch them again?

As a kid I liked"Crimson Pirate" with Burt Lancaster and some other guy doing alot of stunt work.I just thought that was the coolest movie ever. Now I own it on video, but its not the same as when you were a kid.Own "African Queen" on video.Never get tired of that one.Bonanza seems a little corny now. They treat Hop Sing like crap too.Almost racist by modern standards.Still find myself watching it.Im too cheap to get cable.Im not paying money to watch TV.

Just give me a Saturday night, a few cold ones, popcorn and "Where Eagles Dare" with Clint Eastwood & Richard Burton. One oldie I haven't seen for years is "Stalag 17" with William Holden. A lot of the old classics are coming out on DVD;some are pretty cheep too.

"The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews and also all of the 1940's & 1950's color musicals were among some of the finest acting movies made for their time, and still have good taste in the choice of actors and themes. ."

You need to watch the TVLAND channel. Every mourning at 6am "Gunsmoke" followed by "Bonanza" at 7am. Then again at 2pm "Gunsmoke" followed by "Bonanza" at 3pm, then I think its "Rockford Files" or 'TJ Hooker", They also show a lot of John Wayne and Client Eastwood movies and many times they do 24hr. marathons on a certain actor or TV Series. Two months ago they showed all 5 "Rockies" back to back. Around here in NC just about every local station in the entire state shows "Andy Griffith" at sometime or another daily. No matter if your at the beach, the piedmont, or the mountains. But then again this state is very partial to our beloved Maberry Sherriff. Just check out the annual Mayberry Festival in Mount Airy, NC (the real Mayberry).

"The African Queen"---Need I say more. I have seen it over the years some 30 odd times, and never tire of it. John

I proposed to my wife during the final scenes of American Queen on "the late show"- We'll celebrate 35 years in February. Still pretty fond of "the old gal". She still tears up when we watch it- gotta admit I might, too.

Not movies, but my favorites are the B&W Twilight Zones with Rod Serling & the '61 - '63 Outer Limits. When I was 9 - 10 years old, boy, I believed every bit of it.

I startedgetting a couple of The Duke's movies for my 13 year old son to give him an idea of what I watched while I was growing up and he can't get enough of them now. The real suprise was both of my daughters 16 & 10 love them almost as much.

jfp, As they say on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) theres no such thing as an old movie, just movies one hasnt had the opportunity to see yet.

My absolute all time favorite old movie "The Grapes of Wrath" with Henry Fonda and Jane Darwell,,,,, next Casablanca

HOWEVER: There have been a few good new movies in years past such as those below which are MUST SEE.

"Sling Blade" written produced by and starring Billy Bob Thornton

"Shine" The true story of pianist David Helfgott

"Hearts in Atlantis" Starring Sir Anthony Hopkins

John T Nordhoff in Indiana, an old movie buff

Yep, I saw slingblade and it was good. One of my favorites was The Outlaw Josie Wales. 9mm was good but they just don't show these good westerns on regular TV. I know about these cable and sat. companies too, I think they charge way too much.

We had the satelite at the old home and we always had the "big" package cause it had a few of the channels we wanted, but sooooo ooooo o many that werent worth crap. We ended up going to the smallest $ package and added in only the couple channels we wanted( such as western ) and we had a lot smaller bill but still had the channels we ussually watched when we had the big"150" deal. Most company's will do that but they want you to pay for the big package
