To. Some one out there.
I would like to know is there any technical information i can print off for attaching a F.E.L
to a fordson super major or a MF 135 diesel tractor. Would the loader require its own external pump or is it possible to run the loader straight off the tractor remotes.
Also what is involved in attaching a backhoe of a suitable type to a fordson super major. The same questions apply as above with the F.E.L.

Many thanks
Albert

Albert: I'm not sure what information you're looking for, but I had a '63 Super Major with a backhoe and FEL. Both were Ford units, and were made to bolt right up to the tractor. The backhoe was not a 3-point unit, but was made for the tractor. Attachment was via hooks bolted to the tractor. I don't have any other details, as I got rid of the books when I sold the tractor. It ran off from a front-mounted hydraulic pump and had an additional external reservoir. The entire tractor was quite useful, though of course slow compared to a modern high-pressure setup. I owned it for about a year and did many projects around my (new to me at the time) house, but got rid of it in favor of a Trencherman tow-behind backhoe.

My inquire was to get hold of some technical manual on the attaching procudure mechanical and
hydrolic piping for both units.Attachment via hook bolts we would say here mounting bolts would be self explaintary if one was viewing the unit.
More information on the 3-point unit as against a larger H frame mounted unit. Speed of use worries me. If too slow I am better off looking for a MF40B MF50B or Ford industrial B/Hoe. FEL. tractor.
Also what is a tow behind B/Hoe. Have not come across that one in Melbourne.
Thank you for your input .Most appreicated.

Albert: I do not know the time it would take to take off and re-attach the unit, as I never took either the backhoe or the FEL off from my tractor. While I am sure you could do it, I never had any reason to do so as I did not have a use for the tractor without the backhoe and loader. This was not a 3-point mounted unit, it was mounted directly to the tractor by the hooks I mentioned. If high speed of operation is a big concern, you would want to go with a newer, high-pressure unit. While I did not ever measure the pressure on this unit, I assume it was in the 1500-2000 PSI range. Newer units operate around 5,000 PSI, which makes them much faster and lighter. It also makes them much more expensive to buy and maintain as the pumps and plumbing are very expensive to replace or fix.

Not sure what a F.E.I backhoe is, but generally the backhoe for the type of tractor you are talking about is a 3-point hitch backhoe, which is relatively small. Some of them have PTO hydraulic pumps, others run off the tractor hydraulics. The bigger backhoes go on a sub-frame but that usually requires a stronger, industrial type tractor. You generally want at least 10 or 12 GPM to satisfactorily run a backhoe or loader, otherwise they are really slow. I know this isn't much, but hope it helps some.
