Our local 4-H Center is in need of a water tank on wheels to water pulling tracks and to knock the dust down on gravel roads during events. Does any one have any good ideas for a 500 - 1000 gallon tank with motor and gas engine pump. Is a anhidrous tank a bad way to go? I think they scrap these from time to time?

How's about an old milk truck? My neighbor has a tank from an old milk truck mounted onto a really heavy running gear. Fills it w/ a garden hose(NO IDEA HOW LONG IT TAKES TO FILL) then hauls it to his other farm. He does this because the animals won't drink the water from the one farm, so hew hauls it fromt he other and stores it in 3 or 4 of those big plastic tanks.

Seems like you could just use gravity. Why do you need a pump?

Yes it may be worth a try. I am thinking like a 4" outlet to a horizontal 2" spray pipe.

And don't forget a shut off valve in between.

Yes, we have been doing that but sometimes there are problems getting one for all the events that we do. I am thinking we need one for 6 or more events.

We had the same problem but remember you have more than 1 dealer in the county I have had to drag one from as far as 25 miles away but they love the free advertising .

What they use here is a plastic pickup mounted water tank (250 gallons) with a piece of 1" PVC with holes drilled in it as a spray boom that has 2 pc of angle iron and 2 u bolts to hold the pipe. Clamps on the back bumper with 2 pairs of vice grips and uses a 12 volt electric pump. I'd go electric, gas engines dont play nice if only started a few times per year.

Trailer or truck?..Old fire truck comes to mind initially...dunno the prices but farm stores usually have large plastic tanks for pickup or trailer mounting.
Ideal find would be a used smaller crop sprayer, was a LOT of them around awhile back with
"licensed applicator" requirements. Now most farmers(here)have quit do it yourself spraying and have it dome by contract. There are also some clever ATV rigs(Northern Tool)with 12V pumps that a garden tractor or such could handle.

I think a trailer may be the best way to do to less maintenance.
