Hydraulics 101 Question

Hi All,

I am resurrecting an old loader and have re-ringed the bucket cylinders but not the main loader cylinders..Couple of questions.

1. The oil inlets on the lift cylinders both go into the stem/shaft at the top of the mount. Does this make them single acting cylinders? My other loaders have inlets at the top and bottom on the cylinder.

2. The loader lifts very slowly but will lift the tractor but only if I continue to engage the valve. As soon as I release the valve, the loader moves back to least resistance. Also when I shut the tractor off and release the oil pressure it doesn't matter which way I move the lever (up or down), the bucket still goes down. The bucket circuit works fine and I have swapped aux hydraulics so I don't think it is the valve. Is this internal leakage in both cylinders?

Thanks

if to supply hoses go into each cylinder, they would be double action cylinders.

Adding if you don't mind two pop:

supply hoses go into..... .each end of the..... .cylinder.

One end (shaft) only is single action and has power lift but only gravity fall and offers no down pressure.
