Just wanted to let you folks know I'm into my 5th day with a '02 Jetti TDI. Fuel mileage combined freeway and city 42 mpg. I was surprised how comfortable such a small car could be. I gave Detroit a chance but they had nothing close to this car. I drive a little over a 1000 miles a week and you can imagine the savings over my pickup. I'll just have to grit my teeth when I need parts, availability good, price sky high. I did do reseach before buying,at least I felt I made the right decision.

Hi, I drive 130 miles per day on the highway, I was thinking about gettting one of these TDI's...but how much are they? My current car gets 26 MPG.

Do you think the sellers know that they would be good now and the price is up becasue of that?
Thanks!

From what I have seen they are outselling the gassers new, so I would think that any seller would know the demand is up meaning that they would have a pretty hight resale rate. Make sure you do some research, some years had problems like Mass air flow sensor and other odds and ends.

Parts for your VW Jetti TDI in reply to Newman, 09-04-2005 17:53:47
Fellow VW'ers. Yes, part are expensive, but doing your own work (as you already know) saves a bunch. For many things, I've found these guys to be good.

Cool, I bought a 99 Jetta brand new and it was a comfortable car. Weight of mine was 3800 LBS.,gas 4 cyclinder, 30 mpg @ 65 mph. I made a lot of long trips in it and soon had 30k on it. I also had it to 135 mph to see what it would do. The later models are even better quality but 48-50 mpg on a diesel is normal. It is the only small car I can get into. LOL and have fun on your run.

Have had a 99.5 Jetta MK4 with 192,000 miles on it so far. While the interior hasn't held up as well as I wish it would have, it been a great car I drive 100 a day on the interstate at about 80 mph and still get 43 to 44 mpg. In summary, my next car will also be a TDI. I love this car!

I've owned a 5 speed '02 Jetta TDI for more than a year now and I've been getting about 48 MPG. I am loving it these days!

You see what i mean, new Jetta TDI is illegal in 5 states here. They say emissions problem,I know better than that. I got the auto trans. in mine, very smooth, I also got a ruptured 4th disc which contributes to pain in my right arm and shoulder,2nd reason for auto transmission. If I make it to retirement I'll drop back to the pick-up. In the mean time my hats off to VW

My 2000 has been a good car. I get 46-48 mpg. Friday, diesel at Hess was $2.99. Gas $3.29. I'd buy a VW Polo tdi if I could.
Ford makes a Focus turbo diesel that is available in England but they won't import to the U.S. because of the cost of EPA and CARB compliance.

Maybe this fuel situation will bring some of the bureaucrats to their senses and cause the relaxing of some of the requirements that have kept excellent vehicles out of our reach in the U.S.

I could have fall in love with this car a long time ago. Didn't realize it was like that until I drove one. I really had no choice,no mistakes this is a super car. VW did make one mistake for the '06 Jetti, they made it larger and more HP which dropped the mpg.

Got an'87 Jetta gas with 240,000 on it. Still got the original clutch and CV joints, 3rd set of brakes, 4th set of tires. Nothing but one set of spark plug wires and routine maintence. Seems like I have a keeper. Sure have gotten my moneys worth out of it. 'Course, now that I have bragged about it, it'll start falling apart.

Some vehicles just go forever Noah. I got a cargo van 1 ton with 356 gears and it does great for its size on gas(21)mpg) out on the hwy. Here in town drops to 16, but thats a 351 cid and shows no sign of being broke in yet at 160k Its about 6000 LBS . So can't complain much.
