Despite all of the probelms that are going on here in the US can anyone tell me what the deal is with E-85 or 85 percent ethanol. Can this be burnt in a vehicle that was built in the mid 90s, with little or no modifications? What mods need to be done? What about carbed engines. Any good sites to read?

I know a farmer here in central Iowa using E85 in his new Chevy, Gets 14.7 mpg with regular gas, and 14.2 with E85. Also about .90 cents a gallon cheaper.

I am trying to find a source for E-10, since I can't use E-85.
No luck on the web. Anybody know of a site like the E85 website that will give E10 fueling stations?
Dave

I think almost all gas around here is blended to 15% ethanol, just isn't marked.

No bacause your map senser can only handle a 10% blend ,and my S-10 is set up for E85 and it has a plastic tank stainless steel fuel lines teflon coating inside all rubber lines and V-6 injectors to dump in extra alcohol to produce needed power and higher compression to burn alcohol better so the answer is it would be cheaper to look for a 00 -02 S-10 with a 2.2 4 banger and also expect to lose 25% of you present milage when you switch to E85

You can burn a 10 or 20 percent ethanol mix in any engine without harm. Major mfgrs have certified their products for that. For E85, your engine has to be built accordingly, and the car will have a sticker on it, showing that it is compatible. Example, our '03 Dodge Caravan is built for it, has the sticker at the fuel filler tube.

My son has a 2000 ford taurus flex fuel and burns E-85 and only loses 5 % on mileage. He loves it especially when filling up for 60 to 95 cents per gallon cheaper.
