This is a tractor talk forum. Not a place for whiners talking about fuel prices.

Why is it that so many people blame the Presedent when he is only the top man but has little or no say when it comes to things. Its the congress that makes thing work and has the real say.

Blame Bush. Thank God for 2008. The man never even mentions the word Stock Market.

well around these parts when someone is making a mistake or is using his office for his own gain... then we tend to say he's at fault....

take it from that.

Last time I checked, tractors burnt fuel of
some kind or other.

Only one of mine does. The rest won't even consider it. One is stuck, one has no spark, and the last has no head.

Good point, it did disappear in the mid-90's.

My TRACTOR uses gas as well as my truck that I pull my TRACTOR with on occasion. FUEL PRICES probably affect some lowlifes such as me and are of interest. Could that be why so many posters WHINE about FUEL PRICES on a TRACTOR TALK FORUM? Are you capable of ignoring the posts that mention FUEL PRICES?

Maybe there should be a separate "forum" to discuss economic issues such as gas prices etc. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the complaining about fuel prices. It's especially embarassing this particular week .... here we are complaining about fuel costs and there are countless individuals and families down south who have lost family members, friends, homes, and everything they have. I mean, those people have problems, not most of us here on computers today. And then to make matters worse, we start attaching blame be it the tree huggers, the oil companies, the government, the yuppies, the guys in Spandex shorts with fancy sunglasses, the rightwingers, the leftwingers, and everyone else except ourselves. Someone down below made a great post, the solution is to drive less, get a smaller car, maybe get one car (the insurance drop alone will pay for a lot of fuel), stay closer to home for holidays, stay home more, turn down the heat in the winter and the air conditioner off in the summer. Then to save some more money to buy high-priced gas, get rid of our cell phones, cable/satellite TV, special TV packages, plant a garden, eat meals at home, buy lower-priced brands of food, don't buy those name brand clothes for your kids (or yourself), etc. etc. etc. There are literally hundreds of way to cut back on expenses be they fuel related or just everyday living things. Have a good one in Texas.

Mike you hit it on the head. If we reduce consumption, the price will follow. It's only up because of increased consumption. Supply economics.....and a little boost from maw nature.

Mark.

Only partially true, you can't tell me that consumption has increased at the same rate as the prices, and for the oil companies to take advantage of the hurricane situation as an excuse to gouge us is just totally shameful. The oil companies should be lowering the prices in order to help the victims rebuild, not robbing them even more of what assets they have left.

It is my understanding that the oil companies (refiners) increased their prices to curb usage...to keep US from making a bad situation worse...no one wants a complete loss of transporation fuels...short or long term. If you look, the crude price has not increased as dramatically after this storm, granted it did go up some, but not to the numbers that would have otherwise pushed prices up above $3.00/Gallon. These prices are a direct result of refiners increasing their price in order to curb consumption. Makes sense to me.

CONSERVE...it IS just as easily DONE as it is said.

Now burn me at the stake.

Kinda tough to make a business case for that.

If Alberta Mike is really from Alberta he has been paying a dollar a litre for gas for quite a while (about $4.00 a gallon).

So have I. CAD$1.079/liter here in Manitoba and has been over $1 since last last summer. CAD$4.90/USgal = US$4.14/USgal. And I commute 450 miles one way to work. Not much point whining about it. Only intelligent thing to do is conserve where you can. Don't drive unneccessarily. Plan you trips to combine them, so you're not running to town every few hours. Slow down to speed limits. It often seems the ones complaining the loudest are the same ones that insist on doing 80mph pulling a trailer far too heavy for their truck, or the ones who make one trip for groceries, another trip for beer, another trip for a sheet of plywood, another trip for a box of screws, etc. At the farm, we're only 15 miles from town, but we treat that 15 miles as though it were 150, only go into town when we REALLY need to. It only gets worse in the winter, when you have to let vehicles warm up every time you start them. Same goes for the tractors. I used to start the 666 gasser to feed one round bale, every day. For this winter, I'll be feeding 5 or 6, and only starting it once a week.
