I have a 6600 Combine, Diesel. Had problems this summer running wheat. The motor would loose rpms, and all most die if you didnt take load off of it. You could here it slowing down before you notice it on the tach., then the tach would start dropping. Idle it down, rev back to wide open, usually would be fine for about 30 seconds. Changed air filters, and getting plenty of suction, changed fuel filters, and cleaned sediment bowl, no change. However, i did let it die completly twice, let it set 1-2 minuates, and then it started fine. Unfortunatly, this was on the way back to the barn both times, so i dont know what it would have done with a full load on it. Replaced the electric fuel pump already. Is it possible that the return fuel line is plugge? All replies appreciated!

Yes, the return line could be plugged. The plactic ring in the injector pump is probably disinigrating. It is likely there are black plastic particles in the return system. This happened to my old 6600. Mine had the 404 engine. I had to have the pump rebuilt.

Sediment bowl riser is known to plug with soybean fuzz or corn silks especially if the combine has been run with the fuel cap off(been there done that a time or two or 6){never my fault}.Take the whole sediment bulb out and quickly plug the hole.Takes a 3/8" or 1/2" pipe plug.I forget which. Then you can clean the riser out. There should be a screen on the riser but some don't have one or they get knocked off.I actually got so good at it that I plugged it with my finger and cleaned the riser without using a plug.Last fall,I finally cut a hole in the rear of the tank(7720) with a 6" hole saw, cleaned the tank out(mostly corn silks-some cobs ).Made a cover.Drilled and tapped (10/28)about 25-30 holes and made a cork gasket. If you go this route, figure out where the baffles are first. Its a great life!

What about the mech fuel pump on the motor. They'll do that just before they go south.

It's not uncommon to get a piece of chaff or a kernal of grain in the fuel fitting at the bottom of the the tank, restrictin fuel flow ahead of the pump.

Yes, a restricted return line, or housing pressure regulator valve on the injection pump will cause loss of power and stalling, too
