My Polaris sportsman 400 started making a noise in the lower end on sunday. Upon inspecting it I noticed a small hole worn in the plastic case on the side that contains the drive belt. At an idile it make the noise but as you increase the rpm,s it goes away. I removed the side cover and the belt looks fine but i am not sure what else to look for. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks in advance.

what year? if people have been stepping on the cover, the clutchs can start rubbing on the cover which would make the noise. move the cover with your hand while running and see if the noise goes away or stops.

Probably the housing vs. clutch thing. What year? Buddy's did this (500 though) as the heat from the motor, combined with a foot on the housing once in awhile was the culprit.
