I'm going to transport my boyhood Farmall A 3000 miles across country and would like to know the outside dimensions to determine the size trailer to use.

Many years ago I hauled one on a 5x9 foot trailer and I can*t remember what was wrong with it but I did not like it at all **** Hauled the same tractor back to the guy after it was fixed on a 6x10 foot trailer and that was much much better ** 3000 miles is a long ways to go so check everything twice and have a safe trip *** good luck Dennis

Vic, Much would depend on how far out the rear wheels are set. If they are set at 48, 56 or 60 inches center to center, you can transport on a regular open bottom 2 rail car hauler. If you are considering a closed trailer, such as a U-haul, you would need to remove the wheel weights regardless of the rear wheel width. From rear of the drawbar (not including swinging drawbar) to front edge of front wheels is approximately 106", or 8"10". Width including wheel dishes sans wheel weights is 57 3/4". 9.5x24 rear tires set at 48" center to center will be 58 inches outside to outside, including bolts, meaning the dishes protrude further out than the tires, but if placed wider, the tires will be wider than the dishes. You can gauge accordingly. Hope this will give you an idea.

Paul:

Thanks for the dimensions. A tandem axel 6X12 trailer will do me just fine. The tractor comes with a 6' mowing machine and a single bottom plow. I haven't driven the tractor since 1958 when I left for the service. A neighbor restored after my dad passed away and is now giving it back to the family.

I'm guessing it would matter what size tires are on it. it will be shorter with smaller fronts etc. I have transported mine in the back of a full size pickup with an 8 foot box. The fronts drove over the wheel wells and dropped back to the bed. It was a one ton truck so hauling it went fine. gl
