I just finished replacing wire leads and connections that were old. The white wire from the Delco alternator wasn't connected -- where does that go, the red one goes to BAT terminal and another red led to the key, I believe. It wasn't done but should I run a return cable from the BAT terminal to the hot side of the battery terminal to recharge? Also the unit will run with the key in the start switch only, when I let go of it it (to run position) it dies out. Any ideas? Ray in Winter, WI

My manual is not nearby, but I recommend that you get one. Good wiring diagrams in it. The original alternator has separate external voltage regulator and very low amperage output. Supposedly was 22 amps, but mine delivered much less. I changed to one with internal regulator and had to alter the wiring for it.

I do have a service manual for the 610 but mine is one of the newer ones with the steel swing (bobcat) engine cover in the back. I don"t ahve an external voltage regulator like the electrical schematic for the VH4D Wisconsin. The key switch is remotely wired to a round switch block on the engine near the starter solenoid. I"ve got a Delco alternator. Thanks, Ray

I am quessing that this is a gas motor.I would say the key switch is not hooked to the coil or the switch is bad.the second red wire at the alternator should not be wired to the key.it should be connected to the other red wire at the back of the alternator, the white wire should be hooked to the key.you will need a warning light in the white wire circuit,if you dont put the warning light in the circuit the engine will not shut off when you turn the key off.

Yes, it is a gas motor a Wisconsin VH4D. The electrical hookup is different than the one in the service manual. It is a later 610 with the steel swing engine cover instead of the cast iron one (with the bobcat name on it). Thanks for the help. Ray
