My lift has completely stopped lifting (no movement). I had steering problems and rebuilt the steering cylinder and replaced the steering pump with a new one. Replaced the hydraulic fluid, and cleaned the filter. If I loosen the fluid pressure relief valve just below the delivery line I get fluid flow but with what appears to be too much air bubbles. No matter what I do there is no movement of the lift mechanism.

Have you ever heard of the "magic washer"? Email me and send a phone number. It would be a lengthy post if I told you of my experiences here. I caN talk faster than I can type. I will be glad to call you if possible. Go to the lesser known tractor forum and search for Long hydraulic problems. You might find some help there. Good Luck!

When you changed hyd fluid what type oil did you use. sounds like you either have a suction air leak or instaled detergent oil in hyd system.

had the same problem i used to bleed the system
by removing the quick disconnect on the remote and
placing the hose into a pail then pull the valve
alot of bubbles then the 3pth would lift had to do this after every start. pain in the butt; but it worked. never did find the problem and i am a mechanic.

Treeman, The power steering system is separate from the hydraulic system, unless I'm badly mistaken, so the hydraulic problem should not be related. It is possible to install the steel mesh hyd. filter wrong so that the o ring seals don't work, but I don't think that would cause air bubbles. Check hyd. return line for leaks letting air in. There are copper chrush washers in the hyd. system that can cause problems after they age. You need to look up a Long dealer and ask for advice on that. Some old Olivers and ACs (late 60s and 70s) had the same hyd system, might ask them). The control valve under the seat can cause problems. It is possible for the filter to become so dirty that you have to replace it instead of just cleaning it. Hope this helps.
