Need info on pole barn roof

I'm planning to build a simple pole barn using a bunch of 2X8 corrugated tin that I've had laying around for a while, and was wondering what the spacing needs to be for the roof grid that the tin will be nailed to. I'll have poles on 8' centers (maybe 10', but 8 should accomodate any of the little equipment I have).
I will have support along each side of the entire length of the 2X8 tin, but don't know if I need to have a cross brace every two feet along it's length, or will one in the middle at 4 feet be adequate? This is in Kansas, where we occasionally get a wet heavy snow. The slope of the roof will be a 1 foot drop for every 4 feet of length.

FWIW, I have a 40' X 120" pole barn machine shed that was built in the fall of 1961.

The poles are on 8' centers, the truss rafters are on 4' centers, and the 2 X 4 nailers that run the length of the roof are on 2' centers.

It has survived quite a few prairie storms in 44 years!

Why not just run the rafters crosswise to begin with? this building is 20 X 20 and is holding fine.

Cowman, Don"t want to argue but those are purlins not rafters across the trusses. And yes they will work fine forever.

Your roof will experience two types of destructive force. Snow and wind from above and wind uplift from below. Fasten the metal on the same rib up and down the sheet, leave the area between the fasteners across the sheet so that the metal can expand and contract. It is my belief that the metal itself tends to loosen the fasteners from expansion and contraction. Fasten it so that the metal can move with minimal effect on the fasteners.

Place you lathing at no more than 3" apart across the rafters - 2 ft apart is my preference. You have to have hold it on in windy conditions as well as preparing for snow weight.
A number of people still use lead head nails, but I prefer to use screws.
