Seems that some of the OT posts lately have been a bit "WOT" (way off topic) in my opinion. Just to refresh our memories, here's what Kim has to say to you before you trigger the final "Post Message" window on your computer:

"Posting Guidelines: These forums are for tractor-related topics. At all times treat each other with courtesy and respect. Off-topic posts are accepted on a limited basis: No politics, religious discussions or topics that contain bigotry of any kind. These usually result in unkind words and take away from the friendly, helpful nature of this antique tractor community."

Now those are Kim's words and expectaions, not mine or yours or anyone elses. Personally, I find them pretty easy to live with and she's being pretty lenient. Off topic posts are pretty much welcome be it truck problems, trailer questions, the neighbor's fence or his dog or his wife or dumping your used oil. I think we all have to remember that if we visited Kims's house and she had a rule "take your shoes off in the back porch and don't chew tobacco", then we would abide by her request, after all it's her house and even though this is a democracy, living in a democracy doesn't give anyone the right to infringe on a reasonable set of rules that someone else sets up on their own property, and I consider this website Kim's property. You and I are only visitors and we don't set the rules but should do our best to abide by hers.

Anyways, now that I've ranted about this please remember that any disagreement with my comments are a disagreement towards this website's rules so if you wish to take issue with them, perhaps you should contact her at the site suggestions and feedback section lower down on this homepage menu.

I agree with Mike some what. This web is the only web I visit on a regular basis, and once I did post a off subject questions. Would it be to benfit everyone if we had a spot for Off Subject questions?
What do you think?

Very well said Mike. I do think that some OT posts are just made to provoke a response. I'm steering clear of them from now on!

Yeah, but then again in reply to Alberta Mike, 08-25-2005 06:36:01
Some folks start out with "OT....", and then it aint off topic in my mind. Take for instance, the post below about stump removal. Catch a stump that you didn't see with the back of the bushog, or a mold board, and it aint off topic to me. Been there, done that. "OT" about needing help to build a barn to keep the tractors of impliments sheltered from the weather, aint off topic to me. I guess what I'm saying is that some start out with "OT...", almost apologizing for the post, and it aint off topic in my mind.

Some topics though, way out of line, as are some posts, and I've authored a few myself.

Ever tell you folks about the time that I was in a stripper bar and the barstool beat me senseless, without even moving??? Huh??? Is true, but to go into it would really be off topic. Had a real good black eye though. Swelled shut too.

Mark

Mark,

I agree 100%. I come HERE to learn/read about tractors, farming, and RELATED stuff. If I want to read about politics or religion or whatever, I KNOW how to do a search for that stuff and link to that subject ELSEWHERE. Kim has been MORE than tolerant with some of the rants spewed here (especialy tolerant around election times)and some of it has turned my stomach at how much it disrespects HER wishes as to the content of this forum. EVERY American has the right to his or her point of view and the right to speak it(I wore the uniform and fought for their right) but KIM also has the right to control the content of HER site! Go over to Moveon.org if you want to bash our ELECTED President. BTW>>> I did NOT vote for him). Set up your soapbox on the sidewalk of those that walk that path to hear what you want to say. Why subject the rest of us to having to skip over threads that we didn't sign onto this site for? Don't get me wrong here. I LOVE a good political or religious debate in the RIGHT place at the RIGHT time. THIS just isn't IT. This is a TRACTOR site!!

Oh, I see why you made that post now. Mine was removed right? By Kim, the moderator. Well actually, the whole thread of responses was removed, mine being one of them. Actually, I had responded to someone who was defending a group that was being bashed by somebody. In that post I was merely agreeing with the person responding to the basher. So actually you see, I am innocent of all charges laid by yourself. But, being the nice fella, slightly left-winger that I am, you are excused for your mistake.

Obviously you missed the point of that post, perhaps you should read it again carefully. It was of a response to those who seem to blame others for all of our problems that are discussed here so often. I never said I've never responded to OT posts, even political ones. I don't initiate those posts myself but do on occasion respond as I did in the post that you hunted up with those super-duper computer search skills you have in your little bag of computer tricks. Guess I'm being a bit crabby here but I just thought I'd try to bring that to your attention. Have a nice tractor day !!!

Mike, you could not have said it better! If someone wants to spout off, vent (hate that) or run for President let them do it on CNN.

What I like about Mike's message is that it is civil, highly articulate, positive and helpful -- the attributes which make this site one of the most desirable destinations on the Net.

Keep up the excellent work, Kim and contributors.

Rod

I agree wholeheartedly, after all, this site is called YESTERDAY'S TRACTORS, not today's politics or tomorrow's religion. There are other sites for discussing those subjects.

AMEN! Think most of us enyoy things like knowing that it flooded in Boonvile and dried out in skunk hollow, but some of this is too much. Appreciate most of you "regular posters" staying out of the crud messages. You know who you are :-)

Mike you are right on the money. I had the urge to wade in the other day, but I feel a little wiser today for not doing it. Thank you Kim. Lou
