I cut down a poplar tree a year ago and mounted a lamp stand on the stump. Now the stump and its roots are sending up new shoots all over the place. How can I kill the stump and its roots and still use it as a DEAD lamp stand holder?
Thanks

I'd just shave the shoots off with lopers every couple weeks-soon they'll give up.

Thats how poplar regenerates by sending shoots out from the stump, if you want to keep the stump, try spraying the new shoots with brush killer. I don't think that stump will last long as poplar in contact with the ground tends to rot rather quickly--Rick

Drill a large hole in it and fill it full of fertilizer granuals. A year from now the stump will be rotten and fill the hole full of diesel and let it sit for a couple weeks, then fill it again and light it. Gone.

I had an Elm stump that kept sprouting, I drove some short pieces [1"] of copper tubing down into the sapwood - killed it for good -
