Just changed from Amerigas (got up to $1.78) to Franger .99 for the first fill, $1.46 after that with their tanks. Cheaper if had my own tanks, but finding tanks has not happened.

I am sure glad I put in a Geothermal heat pump when I built. Last year my bill for heat and air conditioning was about $600 here in Michigan.

they are rip off artist-dad prepaid for gas last fall. They delivered and was 47 gallons short. They said they would deliver the 47 gallons the on the next run. Come march dad tells them to bring 100 gallons plus the 47 they owe him-well low and behold they charge him for 147 gallons-we are still trying to fight with them. Really poor service and them seem to change personnel every friday. Dad said last week that if they keep on he is going to pay for the 100 gallon then tell them to stick the tank up their.....

Why isn't everyone rushing to convert their gas rigs to propane? What happens with road taxes when you use propane? There must be some reason, with the price disparity so great now.

As far as I know there is no way to convert a modern electronically fuel injected vehicle to use propane. I might be wrong?

We have a delivery sales company called Schawns here that has their trucks on propane, the propane company my Dad drove for quit propane on the trucks almost 10 years ago, but I still smell a lot of them running propane when I am out and about..

My Gas company's delivery Chevy Kodiak runs on it. I guess new chevy medium duty trucks are electronically controlled like the rest.

But, like any propane vehicle I ever was around, they always smell like it.

Contract (they call it prepay) with my tank till Sept 15 is $1.49.

You are wrong, There are new Ford trucks here with propane setups. The ones with the plastic intake manifolds go to the shop after each backfire. The mileage is not good on most propane rigs, {little better on the new trucks} mine only gets a little over half the mileage on propane as it will on gasoline. and about 1/3 power loss. 50 gallon tank don't get you far, that was fine when propane was .50-.75 cents a gallon. I just paid 1.53 for propane, and the truck with the propane setup is parked untill??

I know the old propane tractors had high compression heads to run on propane. I wonder if one would increase the compression of the gas engine, would it have almost the same HP as it did when it was on gas at the lower compression? Maybe mileage would be better too.

Dave, It would help, but I don't know what changing the compression would do on getting these newer trucks state inspection. Some of our state inspections are tuff, I don't think it would be a problem as long as the engine was burning propane, but switch it to gasoline and it might not pass inspection. And the Ford trucks in my post yesterday" out of maybe 15 F150's that was on propane, there are only two left that I know of that still has the propane setup, {the company sold those} I don't know why that company didn't have it installed on one or two trucks, then turn em over to the drivers and get their feedback after a month or two. They didn't do that, they installed it on two a day untill they were all done, after about one year the systems was removed at the same rate of two a day I think. And this system is not cheap for these new trucks. I know they were having problems with the plastic parts on the intake when the engine would backfire, when they were in the boonies and this happened, the drivers were not happy campers.. When you had a backfire on the old propane systems before computers, you didn't give it a second thought, you just cranked the sucker and went on about your business, the new trucks need a tow. I went into their first engine that spit back thru the intake, the bottom was blown out of the intake. The guy still tried to get the truck started and sucked pieces into the engine. This was about a month after the system was installed. And you know what Ford said about the warranty, same thing Chevy or Chrysler would have said, NO.

I think Schwans ice cream trucks still run propane ? Made by GM a throttle body type injection should be easy to convert. I kid my propane dealer all the time because he runs a diesel engine. He said it's just a whole lot less trouble finding a truck and nobody seems to service the propane ones.

My supplier sent out a quote of $1.47 per gallon, sounds like time to look for another supplier, problem is, family has been customers of these folks for well over 40 years.

I just paid $2.20 per gallon ,but I had to haul the tractor to the dealer for the fill-up.I of course got into a heated discussion. The guy thinks I am a captive audience.Says he will only charge$1.85 if I fill my nurse tank with 100 or more gallons. This was in Katy, Texas. As soon as gas and diesel prices increased the propane dealers jacked their prices even though propane on the commodity market had not moved up.
