I have a 1020 John Deere tractor with a 47 loader on it. Is that adequate to handle an eight hay bale grappler?

We had a Farmhand F-11 with 8 bale grappler on a 4010D. Bales were alfalfa at 90-100 lbs each. A 3010/20 would have been too light for that.

3020 would probably be fine if it was me. Weight on rear axel would also be advised. That thing is a long way out front. Good luck..... ...

Not even close plus you need an extra outlet or a pump with reservoir to operate the grapple or bale grab.
