Spent the day at the annual Washington County Fair pulling Contest. Have been in the stands or along trackside for 48 years. Witnessed 450 vs 720; 730 vs 560; 806 vs 4020 etc. Today's sled drug hard with diggers. Must say, considering the test of time, I was extremely impressed with the 560's, 1066's and 4440's. Well over 100 mostly off-the -farm tractors every year. Today it was the 560's beating the 4020's; the 4440's hauling sled; and the 1066's unbelievable.

Pennsylvania. The old boys that run this once-a-year pull seem to set things up to keep out hot tractors. Transfer sled with diggers down to begin pull had the few hot tractors jumping up & down off their wheelie bars & virtually unable to get the momentum they need; two broke themselves. I said over 100 tractors - more like 200; one class had 23 and classes from 4500 to 18,500. Those 7140's and 7240's etc kind of ruled at 16,500 & 18,500. The dozen or so 560's just pulled off their FH drawbars; really out of field stuff.

Should have seen the pic that appeared on here in the not too distant past where a guy had a "Red" puller and had his turbo turn up too high (or whatever you do for boost).

He blew the block in half....top separated from the bottom in the middle of the water jackets.

Person taking the picture did a great job including catching the surprised look on the operator's face. Quite a shot.

Lucky no one got killed ! You can't hardly even show a steam engine anymore since the accident at Medina Co. Ohio everyones running scared of them. These hot rods are as dangerous if not more so,but they draw a big crowd and big money.

Good point, Mike. They even had people standing trackside!
