I have been flying a balloon for 20 years. Most of us try to land in mowed hayfields, CRP land, or wheat stubble. 99 percent of the farmers are excited to have me there and invite me back. The 1 percent that are irate are the same ones that don't get along with anyone. It't not that they don't like balloons. They are always fighting with their neighbors and even their own family.

Flying lawn furnature. Not a good idea. The price of those people (friend) killers will get you in a real airplane with a good chance of survival if you ditch, not "when" you ditch.

In New Mexico ranchers are using them for coyote hunting. Doesn´t seem safe to me, but then again, I´ve seen guys wreck pickups chasing coyotes.

By FAA rules, it's not legal to shoot from the Air, unless you have Special Permission, which I doubt you'd get, unless your a conservation Officer, so it's best to check it out before you get caught.....

KIP

I take it you live in NM. Where at and how many tractors /acre do you have.

We live south of Las Cruces not too far from the Rio Grande.

I´m from a farm east of Roswell. Been living overseas (Angola, Turkey, South Africa, Paraguay, Brazil, Honduras). Last 6 years here in Campeche, Mexico. Saving for a hundred or so acres and some toys somewhere in the midwest US in a couple of years.

They travel slower than you think. Don't lead ahead as far as you do with ducks.

I don't know how popluar they will get, but I have a powered parachute, and it is fun to fly. The only problem I've had is a gust of wind popping the chute while getting in the seat. That is tuff on an old guy, and dam hard to catch when your an old cripple. But that has only happened once. You can do a search on the Powrachute, which is what I have, Was lots of funny stories about them. I haven't checked in a while, not to many people getting hurt with them either.

I wouldnt say they are popular around here, but I have seen a few more this year than last year. Only problem I know of is that about two months ago, a couple of them were using a neighbors feild for a runway without permission.

If they are on the ground they are trespassing. In Texas, it is a felony to trespas on land with livestock. If I caught them on my property, I would own the remains of the craft if it was not an emergancy situation.
