Unless your block is cracked you should be able to rebuild yours.

There were not any John Deere Combines that used the Waterloo-built 270 engine. It's only application was in the "3010" and "3020" based agricultural and industrial tractors. It was available for a time as power unit for irrigation, etc.

Thanks fellers . It is very hard to find any info on the 500a backhoe too. Maybe we are looking at a rebuild the way you all talk. If anyone knows of any 270 engines please let me know. Thanks again .

There are also some major differences in the early 270 and late 270 engines. do you have serial number tag on your engine? does your block have "weep holes on the manifold side or better yet do you have a block casting number?

The only numbers I have so far are Type-E0097 ,
serial- 0003100 but I am not sure of this serial, we got them on the right rear axle housing . I will get the engine serial as soon as I can . Do you know exactly where it is on the block ? It has power shift trans , looks like a vane motor on the swing on the hoe. some say this is bad. sure is exciting !! Thanks again for any and all help.

I believe the 4400 or 4420 combines used that engine, same engine in 3020 tractors. They are getting scarce and pricey. I hunted for 3 months to find a good block for my 3020.

Not. They used the 6 cylinder 329/359 Dubuque engines.
