Saw on TV interview with UPS official. They do the same as I have always done with my personal driving, but their computer does it each day. Circular routing. First delivery is nearest the UPS Center, then next delivery, etc. Last delivery is near the Center on the other side. No backdriving. That plan will work for personal errands. But if getting frozen items at the supermarket, make that the stop just before home.

Several things everyone can do:

Conserve all of the gas and limit driving as much as possible. Don't go on the family automobile vacation this year for example!

don't buy any extras, like pop or snacks at the "GAS STATION". This won't help with gas consumption but it will help hurt the Gas Station's total sales. This is a form of protest, called "boycotting"!

Help organize or join a Gas P{rice Protest movement, and attend protest rallies, especially ones at gas stations. Don't do anything at one, except YELL. but it will give the news media something to report!

If you have a big gas guzzler SUV or Pickup, AND you have a more economical car as well, drive the economy car! Use the gas guzzler as little as possible!

Write letters to the editor of your newespaper instead of complaining on line. Your Gas suppliers DON'T read your protests here, but they might see one , or better yet DOZENS of them, in your paper.

And protesting will do what to lower the price?

The owner of the gas station is an independant(in most cases) and not big oil. Hurting him won't get you anywhere other than hurting a neighbor....

I'm sorry but your suggestions are worthless....

Yelling about a problem has never fixed the problem.

Don't you think that if media attention would pressure the powers that be to lower prices they would have? I have seen a ton of coverage and haven't seen prices drop yet? What good is an editorial, yelling at local gas station and not buy pop and snacks going to do.

You must be from the far left.....

If everyone is an independant, then why do the prices at all gas stations go up at the same time?? A lady I know is a manager at a Marathon station, when I asked her why the prices go up like they do, her response was "I got a phone call from corporate telling me the price was to go up a certain amount at a certain time of the day" Then everyone else went up, also. They also must have got that call from corporate telling them when and how much. when everyone changes at the same time and the saem amount, I call it price fixing, but our government does not call it that. As for GW being the blame, he is not the full blame, but he is an oil man from Texas, i am sure he has lots of oil man buddies, he is not going to step on there toes and do anything. Oil companies have had record profits this year, while most people who are in private sector and rely on transportaion are havng record expenses. Something not quite right there.

I didn't want to advocate anything ILLEGAL, merely that which would allow you to "Vent", , however, perhaps a "special EXCESS PROFFITS TAX", levied on OIL COMPANIES, which appropriated everything they earn that's "Profit" above say a "REGULATED" 4% would help?

Another thing, perhaps a mandated set of gasoline formulations, say something on the order of FOUR or FIVE in TOTAL, instead of the what is it, thirty, Fourty, A Hundred, which now exist, and which preclude smaller refineries from operating? I fail to see the need for MANDATED, INDIVIDUAL formulations for each individual and separate localitie, formulations mandated as CITY ORDINANCES and not National FEDERAL specifications?

I understand that we have hardly any operating refineries left, due to the mandates of our local municipalities and their onerous regulations.

It's sure easy for them to turn record profits.Jack the price up of what you have on hand. Just one semi load maybe 10,000 gals ? raise the price .20 a gal. that's $2,000 extra you just made by waiting one day !

Gas in the tanks is on effectively on consignment.

The independent owner/operators almost never -- certainly never at national brand name stores -- buy the gas first.

"Corporate" owns the gas in the ground, tells the independent what to charge for it, and collects there part of the price from the gas station afterwards.

(Lots of other stuff is like this, too. Stores don't pay in advance for newspapers -- they effectively only pay for the ones not returned to the newspaper the next morning).

Our country should of done something about this problem back in the 70's. Instead the politicians on both sides did nothing to help anyone but theirselfs. Every bill they sign is just like pulling the handle on the flush valve of our country. Everyone put both feet in the bowl and get ready to go for a ride.

Every day I hear someone say something about the price of diesel/gas going up

So my question is..... .....
How high does it need to go before you do something about it????? ?????

I drive the roads 5 days a week 300 to 400 miles a day in my job delivering gas/diesel to stations. I see more and more large SUV's; 1 ton pickups with a house wife at the wheel and bags of groceries in the back. Roads are packed at all hours of the day not just rush hour to and from work.
Do not get me wrong. I feel every one should have the size vehicle they want.. just do not complain about the price of gas when you get 12 to 15 MPG with your vehicle.

Like any thing else.
Meat goes up you eat more beans.
Coke goes up you drink more water.
Gas goes up you complain and buy more and more gas every day.

Just my opinion.
By the way my pickup gets 22 mpg and my wife’s car gets 38 mpg.

I do not think I could pull the loads I pull with a little truck that gets 22 MPG. Some of us have to have a bigger truck to do our job, but I charge for the work I do, so the higher cost of fuel gets passed on.

you might swing by a GMC truck dealer and have a look at thier W-series commercial trucks, which I think are made by Isuzu. Some are even 7-passenger crew cabsI see lots of delivery, moving, gravel hauler and other commerical services use these and they seem to haul big loads with only a 4 cyl. turbo diesel. I'm sure Ford and dodge have something similar, just don't know the name off hand.

The whole American public can't run out and buy hybrids. The scenario of do the high gas prices getting you to do something and you're getting a good deal on gas by the inflation index doesn't make sense. If the price rose gradually over the last 10-20 years then the economy would have adjusted for it.
These high prices are going to show up in everything you do, eat, play-with..
Watch out for the financial storm.
You'll voted him in. Now we're all paying.

It was several months ago that Dick Cheney was asked to see the minutes of his energy meetings and he denied access. The requests went on half heartedly for a week or so and stopped. I for one want to see the records of those meetings to insure that there is no conspiracy to satisfy the people yelling for us to use less fuel. These are our public officials that are denying us access to public records and there has to be a reason for that. If you are wondering, I am one of those that voted him in office so I feel the right to demand those minutes as any American should.

There are several reasons for the gas prices, most of them are caused by the leftists in this country. First world demand for crude is at a all time high while supply is not increasing. Now the problems caused by the left in this country. Drilling in Alaska BANNED, Drilling offshore California BANNED, Drilling in the gulf of mexico BANNED, Building new refinerys to replace ageing 30 year old plus ones in the USA BANNED, Complex idiotic EPA rules that require oil companies to produce over 50 differant blends of gas for differant area's of the country. If this country opened up areas to high tech clean oil drilling world oil prices would drop in a hurrey as overseas countrys would not want to lose their market. Build new high tech oil refinery's to ease fear's of insufficent refinery capacity. Simplify EPA rules on blends nation wide so one or two blends meet the clean air requirement's. Repeal high gas taxes, And last but not least, invest much more time and money in developing new sources of energy as even new oil discovery's are only going to last so long. The clock is ticking if we don't get to work soon I'am afraid in 10 year's we'll be complaining about $15 gas or worse rationed supply. Rant Over.

Haven't you noticed that the price is attached to the spot market? Only a small portion of the world's oil is sold on there. If the spot market were real the oil company profits would not be at an all time high, Saudi Arabia's would.
I am totally convinced that this country needs an energy utility which would regulate gas, electric and oil.

Just what we need more big goverment. That's the main root to our current problem's, goverment regulation's. Goverment needs to take it's rule's and regulation's and get out of the way! Name me one goverment program that has worked as intended, you can't. They are all full of fraud, favortism and cronyism. If goverment took over energy we would be paying $15 gallon in a short time. Goverment tryed to force Kyoto on us, that would have added $3 a gallon but thankfully Bush said no to that leftist wealth transfer scheme.

Absolutely no reason for it either! Bull bull and more bull is all it is. Pure speculation going on and of course it is for the worse. Earlier this year the media said gas would hit $3 and everyone was waiting and expecting it too and now that the time has come since the population was expecting $3 it isn't such a shock. See how well they manipulate the general population!

Don"t think it has jumped that much or that universally in recent memory. Usually there are a few stations that lag on upping the price, or undercut the competition. Today it was EVERY station. I agree, Jack... we continue to complain about the high prices... then continue to buy fuel at those prices... just doesn't make sense! If a significant number of people would just quit driving for a week or two, that would get some attention. Personally, I've parked my truck... wife & I are car-pooling. Not too convenient, but for now, it works. I'll drive the truck as needed or when the price of fuel goes back down.

Would be nice if there were options for some of us. Me, I still need a truck to haul trailers and supplies for the farm. But....I work 450 miles away from home, in a place where there is no public transportation to, nor once you get there. You may say buy a little car for the commute then, but who can afford to keep yet another vehicle insured, since I would still need the truck? Or the price of buying and trying to keep another vehicle running? No, best I can really do is go to a truck that gets a bit better mileage.

Oh, BTW, $1.10 Canadian per liter here for regular.
