Jerry, We had a Pellet stove for about 6 yrs. The draw back to it was if there was a power bump it would go to high fire and stay there. I fought the company to wire around that part since we came home one day and the house was over 100 deg inside. A power bump while we were gone almost turned it into a house fire. We have a pellet furnace now and use 6 tons each winter in Northern panhandle of Idaho to heat our 2800 sq ft home. It will get as low as 24 below 0 with NO WIND. The secret to having them work good is to keep the heat exchanger clean. Mainteance during use is a must. The auger motor went out last winter at a cost of 165.oo from the manufacturer, Trager. I found the same one with a different brand name for 53.oo at a local supply house.

Harmon model 45. Direct vent, self lighting and thermostat control. Easy to swap from grain to wood pellets.

I put two in last year for my mom. She loves 'em. Burns corn; no more wood mess in the house. My brother takes a gravity wagon to the mill and gets a load of dried/cleaned corn. Only drawback is that if the power goes out, you're cold. Unless you have a generator backup.

One of my friends has one and has a marine battery and inverter standing by. It only draws like 400watts or something, it'll run for awhile on the inverter. He's got a generator too but rarely runs it.

I just ran across an article somewhere where they were talking about how many sacks of pellets you had to buy and store, seemed like a garage full. They had to figure out how to reduce the cost of fuel to compete with the other fuels. A plan they came up with is to put manufacturing plants in a central locations that consumers could buy directly from and get the pellets out of Home Depot, etc.

I have an Enviro-fire pellet stove and would not recommend them to anyone. The stove is 3 yrs. old and I have had a couple of bearings go out of it and it is the noisiest stove I have ever heard.
Make sure that you get one big enough so that you're not working it to death.
