Go into it figuring the head is cracked, which is fairly common on that engine, most can be repaired by a good machine shop, but it's not cheap. The $1000 figure is a good place to start,it should bring that as salvage.

I would think you would be pretty lucky to get it for $1000 unless it has a cracked block or head. They are very popular with AC guys. At a good auction I would expect it to bring $1500 to $2000.

haven't keep up with allis prices latly but would say $1000 based on what you said exspect to have $2000 in it with tires and running/serviced if nothing major is wrong.

Are the diesels rare or were alot of them built. And is it the same as a gas engine block and so on?

Diesels are 6-cylinders, 262 CID if I remember right.... gas engines are 4-cyl.... 226 cid. Same deal on the D-17's.

The D-17 diesel is 262 ci. The WD-45 diesel is a Buda 230, same as a Cockshutt 40 D.
