Chris....your yard isn't dieing, unless it is a newly estabished yard. It has just gone dormant. It's Mother Natures way of protecting the grass. When you get enough rain to sustain itself, it will green up again. You might want to give it a shot of 10-10-10 long about October to replace the nutrients it has used while under stress.

Don't worry-a good rain and/or September showers will bring in back with a vengeance. In the meantime, just go to church and give thanks that you are spared the lawn mowing temporarily.

I'd say, just let it go!!!! It don't bother me none if I only have to cut once a month. I really don't have the time anyway, so every spare minute I can save it's spent doing something else that's more important...

Mine's growing so fast I can hardly keep up with it. I didn't get a chance to cut for two weeks this last time and it was well over 8 inches high in somemplaces.....Just be glad yours is dying and you don't need to cut it....I've got half a mind to pour mine solid with concrete and paint it green, now if only I had the money to do it..... .Seriously though, Good luck getting yours greened back up

Still mowing every 8 days here in Ct. - No fertilizer etc. Whatever God has time to grow, I mow. If the man with the grubs would mail me a few, I could get a break -

I have the same problem in my lawn, I watered it and its still brown, but when I walked over it I noticed that I was soft, not soggy just soft, I gave a little tug on the sod and it pulled loose. I started to pul back some of the sod, and I found grub worms - LOTS of them, they ate the roots off - I need to put down some grubex, then reseed HTH Rick

Our grass in Maryland is growing like it is June. Can barely keep up.

You might have bugs.

Here is SE Kansas, everything is brown. Got a small shower yesterday, but it's effects are gone now. Only green place is where the lateral lines run. Normal for August. Will probably green up mid September just in time to get frosted.

mines like that , every year when we go for a while without rain and lots of heat, where there is lots of topsoil it stays green, where there is rock underneath it is brown,i first thought it was the water table dropping and where the rock was the ground wouldn,t hold any moisture, it may be that of that because of the rocky ground it heats up hotter than where the topsoil is, don,t know just guess, seems to come back in the spring though, and watering doesn,t help much.

...or a natural gas leak. That will definitely make a spot in your lawn brown.

Contact your county agricultural agent. He should supply you with a soil test kit and many publications on lawn care. A soil test will tell you what, and how much fertilizer, lime, etc you need to apply.

My guess is either you have un-balanced soil, or an insect infestation of some sort.

Basically, you probably need to fertilize with a fertilizer containing insecticide. You may want to get some that has weed killer in it as well. I think it's to early in the year to do much good now, probably better to wait till mid september, and plan on over seeding at the same time.
