I've had a lot of fun today poking around on this: Weed Alert .

Some of these weeds have cool names. "Horrible Thistle" is a good example. Also, "Creeping Beggarweed" sounds like something I don't want in my pastures.

The site doesn't list "Ironweed," though, and that's something of a disappointment. We've been fighting that stuff for years. My favorite weed of all time is Giant Hogweed, which is also absent from the site.

Do you have a favorite weed?

Eurasian Bittersweet. I love my trees and hate things that climb all over them, compete for sun, and make them fall over in storms.

My wife, on the other hand loves the little red and orange fruits, puts a basket of the damn vines on the front stairs every fall, then I spend the next summer picking seedlings out from around the landscaping in front of the house.

She does'nt see any problem, and she who talks fastest and loudest usually wins.

Well, the first one I looked for was Queen Ann"s Lace. (plenty here in Ohio) What other name is it called? Another one that is dominating here is Blue Devils as Mom called them. Common name is Chickory, I think. Fred OH

Goldenrod, Autumn Olive, Multiflora Rose (although I'm not sure the last two aren't considered bushes).

I shall have to have a browse around that site, it will be interesting to see how many of those plants are familiar to me, albeit I guess with different names. We have some peculiar, if at times rather poetic, names for them too e.g."Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon" (The flowers only fully open on sunny mornings) is one of my favourites, also "Venus's Looking-glass"
Oh and there is 'Bloody Cranesbill', the name refers to the colour of the flowers, not to what you say if you see it growing in your crops! not that it is much of a threat anyway.
