Mornin' All,

Went out to scour the plow last night to try and get a jump-start on the huge plowing job ahead of me.

Didn't even bother to turn a key; the ground is so darned hard the machine wouldn't be able to penetrate anyway. Time for rain! :>(

I was in the Kearney area this afternoon and there is an awful lot of corn thats burned up. Go a little further northwest and it gets a little better but still way too dry to make much of a profit. I enjoy the nice pics. Keep em comin'.

No disrespect inteneded, but you are not old enough to know about hot dry weather. In 1934 and 1936 Need I say more. Many records were set those years that still hold today.

Nope,

Last promised rain did not materialize as per usual (Think I counted 7 raindrops). Starting to look like normal western Nebraska now. :>)

I miss the derned irrigation! :>(

Well we have Houston Black Clay here and I thought as you that August is not the time to start a new hay patch.

I have a 10' IH tandem disc that I put 22" (7mm)scalloped front blades on and added about 1000 lbs to the place where you can add extra weight.

Got out there and was totally amazed at how well it cut. Made 2 passes, leveled, came back with 12" chisels and one more pass, then final spike toothin and I'm ready baby.

So, bro, might put some weight on top of that disc you were showing the nice pics of and try her.....might surprise yourself.

If it's really hard (the dirt), reduce your cutting angle to nil and make a pass. Then come back with them spread like you have them now and I betcha it'll work.

Mark,

Is your disc a model 37? Aren't you afraid of peeling the lift out of 'er?

Harley was telling me to do the same exact thing, but those darned IH discs are prone to lifting apparatus structural tears anyway.

Yessir. You wouldn't believe the welds on it and I may have it tough enough to stay this time. When I bought it the lift was pretty mickey-mouse.

Go fer it bro.

Well,I dont know. When I was trying to farm up there in NE we usually planted alfalfa in Aug. Altho one of the best stands we had was planted in June. One feller seeded his with oats in the spring. Claimed the alfalfa seed would lie dormant untill it warmed up.

Dont the plant have to be a certain size(3 leaves)before the first frost?

Hope you get some rain Allan so you can get the seat time you so desparatly need.

We need it bad here too guys. It rained on three sides of me yesterday, and this afternoon Springfield, about 20 miles away got some, and we"re still counting the days since June 10th, the last measurably amount we got. Good thing I had the winter hay put up, cause I"m feeding it right now. Harley
