San Diego Union Aug 2, 2005.Air regulators here in Calif. said cows produce more smog than autos. Dairys are going to be required to apply for permits to operate. Dairys will have to comply with regulations, to be announced next summer. This kind of stuff needs to be stopped. I think Calif is run by a bunch of tree huggers. I guess cows are going to be required to have a smog test every two years, like our cars. Comming to your state soon. Stan in Calif

In 1991 on a provincial grade 12 writing examination the students had the task of writing an essay or poem on an environmental issue. One wag scrawled the following poem on a piece of foolscap:

Bessie the cow makes too much methane
and wrecks the ozone layer.
BARBECUE BESSIE!

After a great deal of discussion we awarded it the top mark.

Got me going now.

If the nation eats 10,000 cows per day (not actual number) How is it any better for the global enviroment if they're raised here or in Mexico, or Brazil, or in China. The per cow emission is the same and the Boat to get it here will produce more. Plus the added emissions from the new import bureaucrats.

Maybe they should test the exhaust of the regulators and shove a cat converter up theirs.

How can you regulate the exhaust of an animal anyway.

PETA will only be there when we start shooting the cows to meet emissions. Then we will go to jail no matter what. Meet emissions or animal cruelty!

sometimes what some perceive as half truths become the truth. Dairy farmers in Arlingotn Wa were many when we moved there years ago and very few when we left 2 yrs ago. The environmental rules, among many others, forced them out. One from Wa. lives down the road from me here in Idaho, loves the land and takes care of it. American rules dictate that we are squeeky clean while the rest of the countries are turning the world into a dump.

Cheif, I can see a new Goverment office in the making here, along with a thousand or so new Goverment employee's to cover the state. Ye know, when the Goverment put's enough people on the payroll, then add the tree huggers, movie pukes and free loaders, they will have us by the gonads.

California - yuk.

They don't want refineries, off-shore drilling rigs, power plants, nuke plants - cause they're ugly. I didn't feel real sorry for them during their power outages of a couple years ago. Now they don't want cows - I won't feel for them when their beef is 5 times as much as ours.

They can blame it on the government, but they elect these idiots.

I have friends in Montana and Wyoming, and the Californians are moving in like crazy, trying to escape California. The first thing they do is try to turn it into little California. They haven't been moving in here too much, they think it's too cold, I hope they keep thinking it.

Jay, before you beatup California on this issue, there are similar regulations on a federal level, with further reaching regulations proposed. Isn't just them. And it isn't just cattle. Hogs and chickens are listed too. I didn't see horses, but gotta figure they're in there too, which oughta make Allan sleep easier. What wasn't mentioned was the methane gas levels leaking out of our Nations Rotunda.

Looks like government could use about a 90% budget cut, hard to believe that the clowns won"t even attempt to trim the fat and they have money laying around for this stuff, what do you think they will suggest, emission testing for the cows, catalectic converters for the cows, smog pumps?? When are the people finally going to take back control and throw the bums out, better do it before it"s too late, they just keep getting crazier and crazier..

A few years back the cowboys out here in the flint hills Kansas were going to have to put diapers on our cows. That would be quit a job on some of the old girls that run to the back of the pasture when i even think about them. Maybe i shouldn,t say anything someone will start this again. Anyway keep those smog things up to date on those cows.

Hi Chief. I posted below for Allan that I'd something about that yesterday, but not what state. I did a google search about proposed epa restrictions regarding cattle would come up, and got into the University of Iowa's site about CAFO (combined animal feeding operations) and current as well as proposed restrictions at a Federal Level. Are incredible. Then other sites on state levels and their restrictions with regards to protected species of animals, plants, etc and their affects on farmers, period. Is depressing.

Is not just your state. Remember the Boston Tea Party? Time to do the same with cow, hog, chicken dung on the desk tops of our politicians on both sides of the political aisle. The filthy rotten slimey ba$tards. It's beyond time to take back our country and send the Useless-nited Nations packing.

What I want to see is the ones doing the regultin' going around to all the area farms and daries and sticking the "sniffers" up the cows hind end to see if their in compliance. Next thing you know their gonna be required to have onboard diagnostics for every cow with a flashing light to let you know every time they fart..... .

I think the problem is the result of the small farmer going out of existance. Use to be a small herd of 15-20 now 2000-5000 and they draw a lot of attention.
