I just got an old 1940s 4X5 trailer from my dad. It used to be his Dads and he used it on several of his farms. It has truck size tires, side rails and a tounge with a twist that is used to tighten on the ball. The basic ball size can't be easily found anymore.

He said it was a kit from Wards in the 40s. The back rail could be slipped out for long loads or dumping. The problem is that it is all rotted out and I have no clue what it is supposed to look like. I want to restore it to its initial dimensions and specifications but cannot find anything anywhere to give me a clue where to start.

Can someone help?

Search the internet and look at the libraries and historical societies for a 1940"s Wards farm catalog. I bet they have a picture somewhere.
