Was at the SteamUp today and saw a new NH 60, says made in Italy. Just checked on the JD site, last line on the 5303 spec chart says "made in India". Are any tractors made in the US? Loren.

Well - in the case of New Holland - the company is headquartered in Italy. In the past few years there has also been an influx of "yuppie" tractors from Korea (Kioti, Branson, Montana, Century, etc). A lot of people are buying these (even though the price is more than they're worth) because they just gotta have a new machine. These companies are overpriced, but they can still undercut the prices of new JD and other real tractors, so people buy them. Even Cub Kadet is made in Korea now - hence the drop in price and quality (and the ability to sell at TSC).

Some of the larger tractors 100 hp plus are built here John Deere for sure I don't know about the others. Been that way for many years now. Building tractors has always been a global thing. Look at Ford Dexta the English Fordson, David Brown, many of the Furgueson line, Longs, Belarus,Porsche, Mercedes all were imported to some extent into north America. On the other hand American manufacturers had their own lines that were either built in Europe or exported there.

I bought a new JD 5320 (55 pto HP) a couple months ago. The only parts I know for certain made in USA are the Firestone Tires.....because they say so. The engine is Hecho en Mexico. The front axle is Carraro (Italy), the rear axle says Mannheim (Germany), the lift arms and top link say made in Spain, the electrical components are Bosche..made in Spain. I was told by a JD mechanic the hydraulic lift mechanism is made in Yugoslavia, I haven't got a clue where the transmission was cobbled together but all this mess was assembled in Georgia. The 541 loader was made in Canada. Reminds me of that Cadillac Johnny Cash sang about years ago. You're going to see JD tractors made in China in the near future. I looked at a light duty JD rotary mower (bushhog) and the gearbox said Made in China. It's coming folks...might as well get used to it. All the manufacturers want to sell to us, but not pay us to make it. It's all about profit, not market competition.

It's a sad situation. in reply to mark, 08-01-2005 08:17:45
I'm going to look around some more and see if I can find anything in the 50-65 hp range that isn't an import. Doubt I'll have much fun though.
