I wouldn't have believed how difficult it is to find a small shock absorber that's mounted within a coil spring on the frame assembly on a 1952 MM V. It's got to be threaded on both ends. Anyone know where a fellow could find such an animal..?

Check with Phil Heisey on the Oliver Cockshutt board. I think the shock thats used on the Cockshutt Knoedler seat is threaded on both ends. He usually has a post on theremost days.

I have a really super machine shop 15 miles down the road. It's locally run and owned and when I walk in the door they stop what they are doing and do mine....while I wait.

Like yesterday. I was working on my power steering and broke a flange off the steering shaft that the steering wheel attaches to.

Ford wanted over $400 for a replacement....ouch.

Made up some drawings of the system so that I could understand the MECHANISM'S and took the broken shaft, housing it fit into, and the I&T manual (with a picture of the rest of the steering system in it) and went to the shop.

I had a brief discussion with the machinist, showed him my problem, the pictures, talked about what did what and in 15 minutes I walked out the door with the thing fixed and only cost me $20..... .whadda deal. Installed it yesterday afternoon and I'm back in business.

I think they like my jobs cause they have to think and do some creative designing and it's fun for them.....lot more fun than what they were doing...making 50 or so of the same hootus.

Try em.

Mark

Don't think I ever saw one, can you find something close and make the rest of it work, weld some stock on with threads and grind it down so it looks like it was made that way?? You get to be creative with the old tracors, picked up a narrow front for a 44 massey from a guy on here after work today we met quick and picked up and payed him, the gear box is a little work like they all are, so will have to see if parts are available or if I have to try to make some.
