I am a Ford guy ( 600 800 2000 ). These are all I know, and I love them, but having to sell to get something with power steering because of bad elbow, and I've been told it's price prohibitive to add on PS. I saw an add for Intl. gas 464 with QT loader, and side shifter for $7000. Should I keep looking for Ford or is this a good easy operator?
Thanks,
ken

That's spendy for that tractor and you'd be happier with dsl. I'd think twice about advice from someone with color in their handle. I don't see 30dbh Ford or JD or whatever outpulling 40dbh IH unless you're in wrong gear or not set up right. Shuttle shift is the cat's meow for loader work, TX probably had a clutch lockout adj problem.

My first tractor was a Farmall B. Gutless

My second tractor was a 4 year old 464 with side (shuttle) shifter, gas, 900ish hours new paint and $4500.

I sold it at about 1500ish hours and bought Fords and JD's. The Fords do the small stuff (sized like yours) and the JD's the big jobs.

After having the Fords you mentioned I doubt you would be happy with it.

Hard to start in the winter, hard to get on and off, For it's hp it would only pull a 2x14 plow in heavy clay and lumbered at that . Exhaust manifold kept breaking, shuttle shift was always getting hung up....in general I just didn't like it.

I sold it to a neighbor for what I paid for it several years later. He still has it but only mows.

Haven't owned red since....except for a currently owned MF 35 which I use for my mowing.....which, by the way is hard to get off also cause there is no room in the cockpit(station).

I know IH sold a lot of those for industrial backhoe and loader/scraper work with the shuttle shift.

One man's view.

Mark

Morning Mr. Ken;Don't know anything about the International tractor you are asking about. But you can go to Jackson power steering.com and look at a unit they manufacture that will fit the Ford tractors you have.I had a Ford 600 years ago.I need that tractor back right now,I should never have sold it.Anyway you may be money ahead to add the power steering to a tractor you know rather than start over with the unfamiliar.Have a good day.BTW,if you sell your "600" I may be interested depending on where you are located. One in the paper N.E of Dallas.

"Ford 600 Series, hi/lo range, good rubber, 5' mower, $3000. (972) 345-1650 or 784-8887. Ask for Scott."
