I used 15w-40 in a Deutz 9006. Seems to loose its tackyness/body much faster than the same oil in a Case 930. I am thinking the VI wear out faster. Maybe should use stright weight.

Does your 9006 have a inline injection pump or a rotary. Inline pumps need to have oil changed in them. Your pump seals may be leakingfuel into crankcase. Deutz engines usualy are very clean.

I've run 15w-40 in every Deutz i've ever owned. Use to use Delo 400, now i use Rottella in everything.

For the most part i change oil and filter every 100 hrs..

If it were me, I'd have a look in the operators manual. It will certainly give recomendations for change interval, and viscosity. I think you will also see a note about oil consumption on Deutz engines. They burn so much per 100 hours. You might simply find that the Deutz is a "dirtier" engine than the Case, and that' why the oil has more discoloration. David Brown was the only diesel engine that I've ever seen that kept it's oil spotless. Ford is one of the dirtiest, with the turbo engines wanting a change at 150 hours, due to degredation and soot buildup. Check the change interval, but I think I'd still stay with 15W40. That's pretty much the standard in heavy diesel engines today.

I have a Deutz DX140 that I use every summer to both cut and bale. I change the oil in the spring before hay-season. This is the only time I put oil in this engine. This engine is a turbo-charged 6-cyl. with 4586 hours on it and here in humid Arkansas, it sees it's amount of heat. I'm not sure what you are getting at with you dirty oil comment, but other than row-cropping, I'm not sure you're going to get any dustier than haying.

Oh, and if the fuel sulfur is great than .5%, reduce drain intervals to 125 hours.

My Deutz-Allis owner's manual calls for 15-40 in everything on the tractor. It's a 6265.

Back in the 1950's, I knew an old timer who would taste a drop of oil off the dipstick to determine if his oil needed changing. I never tried that. (He also could stop a six cylinder engine by shorting out all the spark plugs with his fingers -- never tried that either. Are there guys like that still around?)
