JDNH baler differences in production/output

I hear comments once in a while about some balers flat putting bales on the ground and some that seem to take forever to bale a ton. Is it safe to assume that a 16x18 baler will bale more/hour than a 14x18? Is it also safe to assume that certain John Deere and NH will outbale other models within the brand due to other differences? Loren.

While I am a Deere fan. No baler will work if it isn't properly setup. The plunger knife has to be sharp and clearance to the ledger set perfect. The bale chamber feeding system is to be timed and stroke set for the type of hay. The knotter has to be clean, sharp, adjusted and timed. Even the tractor driving the baler matters. Is the windrow being fed into the pickup center, either side or is the tractor tire trampling the windrow. Is the windrow tall/narrow or low/wide?

I think we used a 336 JD and we could fly thru a field with it and always made tight nice uniform bales and few problems .

Paul is correct as far as the basic mechanics go but there are so many variables involved that the question is difficult to address. Lots of these balers that "take forever to bale a ton" have so many problems that comparisons cannot be made. The hay and the operator also add greatly to output numbers. If your talking about when they are/were new Pauls answer applies almost totally...

Lets say all balers are new for this.... in reply to BobMo, 07-24-2005 05:35:30
and all windrows are the proper size for each respective machine, ground speed also at optimum. Just comparing the machines capabilities only, if they are in perfect condition. Glad you brought that up Bob. Loren

Some NH balers are designed for a rather slow stroke count per minute. Others are designed for almost double the stroke count. Makes an obvious difference. All I know for sure is the 270 NH is the slow stroke count. Fast stroke takes more power of course.

Steve from NH??? in reply to paul, 07-23-2005 23:08:56
Or any others? Do you have info on which are "fast" balers? I'd like to see a listing of baler specs on a couple different brands, too bad there's not a good website for that.

Are you looking at new balers. I know the NH website has the strokes listed as well as the bale sizes. We have a NH 570 and it is a hoss of a baler but there is a 575 too.

Nope, used. in reply to Can't even use my name, 07-24-2005 09:46:50
Just looking for specifics on used balers as they were new. Kinda trying to rule out the misc. mechanical problem variables so as to compare the actual balers.
