Dennis hit us directly last Sunday afternoon. It was strange seeing the storm hit during the day. House & family OK. Another limb through the roof. We ran the generator all week to keep freezers & fridges running and a few fans to ward off the heat. Power restored Thursday night. Many more oaks & pines down on the property and one large oak landed squarely on our old Ford diesel--my first tractor. (A close-up photo is posted on the stuck & troubled page.) We had prepared for a southeast wind based on the tract projections all day Saturday & Sunday morning but the storm turned north during the last hour before landfall and we got northeast winds during the first half (before the eye passed over) and then southwest winds after the eye. We saw the tree come down--in an instant, during one of those 135 mph gusts....

Hello Kevin;
Was wondering how you made out.
Glad to see the family and house are OK.

They said this was no Ivan because it was small but if you were in the narrow path it was still a big one.

Do not worry about the 801 tractor. If something is cracked it will still be worth enough in e-bay parts to afford another one.

Glad the family is OK. Sorry about the tractor. We were on the Miss gulf coast for several bad ones and I was raised 50 miles off the Texas coast so I know where you are. Like you said, it is weird to have the wind blowing like crazy from one direction, then get deathly quiet and everything that blew over there is now blowing over here. Real errie.

At least you had an APU to keep your stuff from freezing.

Glad to have you back.

Mark

Hi Kevin,

I was wondering how you fared this year. Glad to see your all are healthy.

Damn what a shame on the tractor. If the tree had to fall, why couldn't it have fell 3ft to the right.

I can see it now, a winter project, build hurricane cage for tractor. LOL
