Ken,
I doubt that your clutch suddenly failed. I have a Belarus 570 and don’t know if the transmission in your 250 works the same. If it does you very possibly have the transmission in neutral between the high and low speed selection. With the clutch in, move the stick shift to the extreme left and then push forward on the stick. You may be able to feel the transmission engage. Next pull the stick back slightly and you will find a neutral position. Next move the stick to the extreme right and push forward. That should be first gear. If that works you should be able to select the remaining gears as usual.
If this does not fix your problem, check the rear wheels and make sure that the large axle key between the clamps and the axle has not fallen out. If you are not sure what I am describing, have someone observe the axle while you engage the transmission. If the axle turns and the wheel does not, you have post the key.
You can contact either of these folks (and there are other places you can get parts) for a replacement key if you determine that is your problem. They can overnight the part if you desire.

Good luck.

Ken,
Note correction to the sentence "If the axle turns and the wheel does not, you have post the key." Should be If the axle turns and the wheel does not, you have lost the key.
