Hi. Just hooked everything up on the K341 16 HP Kohler motor. It would just catch and would keep trying to start but not actually starting. Tried carb adjustment: No difference, theres gas into the carb, and points have spark. My uncle is a mechanic and he said that a valve may be stuck. Is there anything else that could be wrong??? Please Help!

a) Did the engine run before you "hooked everything up"?

b) Squirt some starting fluid into the carb -- if it doesn't try to run, you have an ignition problem.

c) If the plug is a Champion, replace it with Autolite, even if new.

I dont know, I didn't get it w/ everything hooked up.

b) Squirt some starting fluid into the carb -- if it doesn't try to run, you have an ignition problem.

I did w/ no result and yes I already know I have an ignition prob.

c) If the plug is a Champion, replace it with Autolite, even if new.

it is a champion but does autolite make a H10C?

If you can't find an Autolite equivalent, use any other plug but Champion. I (and a bunch of my friends who collect small antique engines) have had nothing but problems with champion plugs -- we figure the relatively low compression engines and the "new" gas is a cause of the proble.

Another thing you might want to check is if the flywheel key has been sheared.

I'll take note of problems w/ Champion sparkplugs. There is no flywheel key that has been sheared.

Is the gas getting out of the carb?
Try squirting some in to the carb bore.

Points are a pain and hi maintainance
Set the points to spec and make sure clean with a white paper.

Does it have compression?
Roll over by hand and try to get a "feel" for it if you dont have a compression gauge.
"Feel" the compression of a known good one and compare the two.

I usually start with a new plug (also high maintainance part). Even if the old one looks good.

Good user name.

Thanks :)

Yes there is gas getting out of the carb.
The points are clean but I will replace them with new points, just to be sure.
Yes has compression.
I have a new plug. Never used before I tried starting it.

I am having my uncle look at for he is a personal mechanic.
