Ok guy's, my 76 yr. old mom need's a new mower for her 601 Ford. Her current mower is a 5ft. covington cutter, but it is old old old, and rusted to boot! What kind of mower do ya'll suggest for an old woman that mow's often? It does not have to be a 5ft. but that is what she is used to. But it does have to work for her, so I'm not called every other day to fix it. Will have to be a 3 point hook up of course & I don't mind spending $ for a new one. But HOW MUCH AM I LOOKING AT? Also she need's a new rear tire 11.2-28 on a 10'' rim. How much for that? Sorry about all the newb ? , but mom is old and enjoy's her tractor! Bless Ya'll

Each mfg has a website to research basic specs and pictures. John Deere is one of the best in that regard. They'll give you more information than most and a list price to boot. Their 5' rotary cutter (LX5) lists for $1277 and most if not all will discount and maybe take your old one in trade. I know your Mother probably feels she's getting old and shouldn't spend much on a mower but Im so old I don't buy green bananas anymore. Might not live to see them ripen, but I don't believe in skimping on quality. You have to identify that degree of quality.

I just put some 11.2 28s on my C - The tires were $240 each. I decided to also put in new tubes - they were about $30. Labor was $30 per tire (at my place). I have just over $600 in tires. I think thats cheap. Look locally, thats where I got the best buy. Firestone 4 plys are the only thing available.

Do we understand that you want a 3pt finish mower for lawns? Or are you looking for a brush hog type of rotory cutter that does rougher work?

There are often 3 levels of quality on these units, & you can find different qualities from the same manufaturer aside from the differences between manufaturers. Kind of a wide open question.

I would suggest visiting the local farm supply stors & get a handle on the local chap but useful stuff; then go to some turf or ag dealers & look at the name brand stuff probably for more $$$, and come back with a few models ^ brands that caught your eye. Easier for us to list some good & bad points that way. As well as be talking about brands you can get locally.

Not that you won't get any replies, but some folks will say they love their $600 King Kutter, and others will say they love their $2500 Land Pride or Bush Hog (HD, with the big gearcase...) and you won't really be comparing apples to apples.....

Thank you, Paul! I'm looking for a rotery type, rough cut mower. Something with a stump jumper, but do not want to spend $$$. Maybe in the neighborhood of $750.00 or so. Is that stuff from Northern tool worth a flip? Again, thank you so much for your reply, Paul!
