Does anyone remember all the buzz in the late '70s early '80s aboput a guy that put a off the shelf Perkins diesel in a Ford Mustang. I kinda remember that he was taking it somewhere for evaluations and don't remember hearing anything else. Does this jog anyones memory.

I don'r remember the perkins project. But I remember he used a VW Rabbit w/gas. He super heated the air fuel mixture to totally atomize the gas. Put the entire intake system in hot exhast gas. It had a turbo on it but claimed it was just a homoginizer not a booster. Claimed something like 100 mpg.

If that's the same proect I remember him working on he was getting well over 50mpg with it. Seems he turbo'ed it but I didn't remember it being a Perkins. I was thinking Yanmar or another tiny tractor brand.

Anything is possible! I put a 400 small block chevy in a 80 fox body Mustang and did not chop up anything on the body! Not even the tranny crossmember! It used the mustang shifter, S-10 front drive shaft yoke in the Mustang drive shaft. Looked like it rolled off the show room floor with it sitting inbetween the shock towers. Chad

I'm not familiar with that situation, but the only Smokey that I acn think of that would try something like that, would be Smokey Yunik. Am thinking he has a website. Quite a charactor.

Perkins in a Mustang?

Am thinking is/was the only person in the world that could teach Jenkins a thing or two about a small block.

About the time Chevy was releasing the low HP moderate torque 400 SB in it's full sized cars and pickup trucks in '70, he'd already had instructions to bore one .030 over and stroke it down to 378". I can remember hammering the gas and feeling my eyeballs pushing back into their sockets and feeling my face and my ears trying to wrap around the back of my skull. Ha Ha Ha Ha, thanks for the memories.
