Has anyone bought a new GMC vehicle using the employee discount for everyone? Is it a real legitimate program that brings down the price or has it simply been a huge advertising effort? (It made me call the dealer and price something new) I just wondered if any one had actually used it. Thanks everyone, and to keep this post on target. Happy tractoring,
zoidberg

Interesting marketing game. And people walk right in and ransom their first born to finance it. You don't suppose if any car manufacturer, tractor manufacturer or etc. were to build anything worth owning for a price worth paying, they would not have to offer "incentives, rebates, kickbacks" or what ever the gimmick of the month is?
I've always been a GM owner, but nothing new from them since 1993 when I bought the car from h**l from them. A Ford truck has been my driver of late.

my brother is almost as cheap as me and he bot a 2005 Malibu using the program

window no-haggle price is supposed to be 3% under dealer invoice, some vehicles have rebates too (Malibu had $2000), dealer gets reinbursed some amount from GM to pay the 3% plus give some profit for the dealer

dealer can share part of this GM money with customer to make the sale

check out invoice price on Kelly Blue Book and then see what the no-haggle price is, then start haggling for piece of that GM money

I know a guy who is GM worker. He refused to use his employee discount ..... because he could get a better deal on new GM cheaper by talking down !

Yep, its for real. A woman I work with just got a new GM SUV envoy I think for $280 a month or something for a 3yr lease. She said that the dealership was packed with people buying and leasing.

It's the real deal! Worked for Ford 4 years and they have a similar program.

GM sales were up 46% in June over last year, sold 550,000 units. Ford and Chrysler will start similar programs shortly and expect Toyota to follow. Honda marches to their own drum, so don't expect it there.

Didn't buy one...

But I heard the 46% sales (thought they said 41%...no matter) gain on the radio. And all the stock pundits were nervous a couple days earlier when GM put a freeze on any of it's executives trading stock -- corps have to do that before announcing major news to reduce insider trading -- and the pundits all thought it was going to a big, bad announcement.

At any rate...drove by one chevy dealer near me and noticed all the cars & trucks where on the perimeter -- middle of his lot was **EMPTY**.

The discount is legitimate. This is a no-negotiating price that varies according to the type of vehicle. (The more expensive the vehicle, the higher the discount.) It is highly unlikely that you would be able to negotiate a better price with the dealer. It is the same deal that GM employees, retirees, and their immediate family members have always been able to get.

I think the discount typically runs 15-18 percent off of list, exclusive of destination charges. Your dealer should be able to tell you the exact discount for a given vehicle.

Manufacturers must be getting hungry.. I saw an ad in our paper.. 50 HP John deere, with rotary mower & FEL for $17,500.00 ... 5 years 0% financing..... That sounds cheap to me

The dealership I work at has sold many cars with this program. I have no idea if the prices are better or not as I am not in sales. I would think so as todays customers are very well informed. I call the employee priceing program--Everyone can afford one but the employees !

She is all crapola.

I worked off and on for that outfit since 1968 at different times and different dealerships.

There is no such thing as an employee discount. Never was. It is all sales hype.

you know it guy, same with ford and dodge. there is no such thing as employee price unless you work at the factory. all it ever is is a game. prices literly change daily, new rebates and incentives, especially on the last day of the month. if your dickering over a unit for a month you'll get a call on the last day evertime because they need the sale and usually make the pot even sweeter.

ford and dodge dealership here and as far as we have seen it"s just a sales hype. yes they do sell you the unit at employee price but there"s no where near the rebates that usually exist. example.....

MSRP is $30,000. you talk them down to $28,000 and then tack on $5,000 in current rebates, total price in the end is $23,000.

now the employee deal as we see it.....

MSRP is $30,000. employee price is $26,000. no talk down in price and there"s only $3000 in rebates at the moment, the final price, $23,000.

that is exactly what we have witnessed at our local GM dealer. just my 2 cents.

Looking in tonight's paper at a local GM dealer's advertisment: Headlines read..."You Pay Less than the Dealer Pays!!". Example: 05 Buick LeSabre, MSRP 33,835, Less Employee Discount 3,772, Less Rebate 3,000, Less Dealer Discount 575, total LOW price is 26,488.

You're right...it's just a slight of hand movement in changing the discount from the "dealer side" to the "employee side".

Last month when the Ford / Dodge dealer was offering 24 mo. leases on 4x4 Fords or Dodges for 199.00 / month with no money down...that's when new pickups were moving out!

GM is in financial trouble so it is a way of generating cash, if enough people are persuaded to buy.

I have bought using it because my son in law works for GM. Actually if you have the GM credit card you can also get some additional money off. I buy almost everything on their card and pay in complete at the end of the month. My purchase in Nov. of 2004 resulted in a little over $1700.00 reduction.
