My employer has this field that the city makes them keep mowed. The money they pay is crazy so I am wondering about offering to mow it at a savings to them and a chance for me to make a little money with my old John Deere 60, so I have a couple questions. The field is very rough with ruts from construction equipment, so it will need to be plowed, disked, and reseeded. What is a good, CHEAP, grass to plant for a field that will just be mowed twice a year. Also how big of a rotary mower can I pull with my 60? What would be a fair price to work and seed the field, and then to mow it twice a year, the field is about 20 acres, located in central Ohio Thanks JDMAN60.

As Leland says most seed stores will have the 'pasture mix' which is a few things that grow well locally, and is cheap. If the ground is especially low (wet) or sandy you might want to look for a certian type of grass that does better in different conditions.

Any way to make hay on this land instead of just mowing it? Could make some fun, headaches, & more money that way. :)

CHEAP SEED: Go to your local farm seed and fertilizer dealer and ask him for the sweepings from the seed room floor. Some places will give them away, some will charge a little. Last time I wanted some I got a grain sack stuffed full for free, and they even carried it to the car for me. I mixed it with winter rye and sowed it on a ditching project, and it came up mostly clover.
