I was round baling yesterday. Stopped twice in the field to fix a twine feeding problem. Several rounds after the last stop I realized my cell phone was no longer in my shirt pocket. Stopped the tractor, looked under the seat, behind the seat, on the floor, phone was nowhere to be found($170 phone). Went back to the two bales I had stopped by looked on the ground, no phone. Walked around a dozen other bales just in case I got my bales mixed up, no phone. I keep the phone on vibrate because I don"t always hear it with the tractor running so dialing the my number and listening for it to ring was not an option. Got back in the tractor and started baling again and trying to figure out where that phone was. After thinking about it, the second time I had stopped I bent down in front of the pickup to pull the twine through the twine arm. I figured the phone must have fallen out of my pocket into the windrow. Went to the next bale in that row, cut the strings and unrolled it, there at the center of the bale was my phone. Went through a JD 385 baler and still worked fine!

Sometimes, we get breaks, and it sure does feel good too, huh. Not bad John. Not bad at all.

My son"s friend was doing some radio tower work here on the farm. Dropped his cell phone from 80 foot level - landed on a wooden pallet and bounced. Still worked!

Was out brushhogging one day last year....Got back to the house, & couldn't find my little Nokia.....Went back & looked. I had ran over it with the brush hog....Found small pieces of plastic mostly....Phone did not survive....

We had 11 kittens from 3 cats this spring - my wife's first kitties on the farm.

Last night I followed someone out the driveway & to town, got a mile from home & saw a cat appear on the highway. An hour later it kinda bugged me, drove back home & only counted 10 kitties. Went back to the spot, called 2 times, and a very shy little kittie popped out of the grass by the state highway. Much longer story, but it dropped out from under the pickup at 40+ mph, ran to within 6" of the minivan coming down the other lane, then ran across the lane in front of me. With it's fur all puffed up, looked like a large full grown cat.

Think it used up 3-4 of it's lives last nite.

Just one more reason to NOT carry one of those dang things around with ya on the farm. Put it in the tractor tool box next time, then, if'in ya need it you have it.

My cuz has 3 cell phones, fun to try and converse with him when they are ringing all the time.

John,

Whew! Now, that's a memory you won't soon forget. Glad you finally found it! :>)

The wife says I've gotta get one of those little "cigarette-pack-sized" phones to carry on the tractor since the fields are half way across the county.

Sure didn't realize that they were quite that expensive tho. :>(

You can get 'em alot cheaper but the more expensive phones have more features, some you need and some you might not. I get a phone from work but when my wife needed a new phone we spent $100 and got a nice Nokia. I don't care about the ring tones and all that but it does get EXCELLENT reception on the farm, even sitting inside the camp where her old Nokia got no reception at all. The old phone lasted 5 years with no problems until she lost it. If the new one is that good I'll be pleased.

Now Allan, if it had little ag tires and traces of rust in the seams we all know you'd pay twice that for it. :-)

Sometimes you wanna break it in reply to John e.c.MI, 06-24-2005 04:55:22
Boy there are days (most) I'd like to hide my cell phone in the center of a round bail, feed it to the bovine and later spread it across some sandy ground that really needs it. It is the least favorite piece of propperty I own. Dad was a veterinarian and our livelyhood depended on the telephone. It was a tool and I guess I never got over it. When I am working and my wife calls for the umpteenth time in an hour just to have me tell her what color the sky is, I have to take deep breaths. When I am at a restauraunt and someone else's phone goes off, more deep breaths. When mine goes off in a public place I almost hyperventilate when it is a nonsense call. There is one feller though I am going to call in just a couple minutes just to wish him well, cause it is a big big day for him. I hope I don't notice the sound of his phone going through the south side of some cow. :? )

Hey, don't get me started on those danged towers!!! One about bit me a couple days ago as I winged low to say g,morning to a buddy of mine.
