I have a JD 3020 that has the left rear wheel and the power steering to lock up intermittently while you are using it. Based upon this I am pretty sure it is in the hydraulics and the fluid level is fine. Is there a good starting place to troubleshoot without having to start with the pump? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any of your help.

If that is the case then I would hva the steering valve and the brake valve rebuilt. Are you sure the brake pedal is releasing all the way? I have seen the pedal pivot pin or the piston cup get rusty and keep the pedals from releasing.

The only oil run in the transmission in the last 20 years that I have had it is the John Deere HyGard. It has been a little over 2 years since I changed it and the filter. It may get approximately a 100-150 hours on it a year and nothing really hard working, mainly haying.

What kind and brand of oil has been dumped into that transmission?

Just a guess ,but I would suspect the brakes have disintegrated and the trash has gotten into the steering and brake valves.Start by removing the transmission filter and give it a very good inspection by cutting it open and looking at the pleats of the filter.Hope I am wrong.
