My 4230 wont start after it has been run for awhile in hot weather. The engine turns over but it wont even try to start until it sits for awhile. It isnt running hot at all, the engine is very strong & doesnt use any oil. After using it hard I always let it idle for a few minutes before shutting it down. Anybody know what might be causing this? Ive heard all the stories about the 4230 being a hard starter in cold weather but it doesnt give me a bit of trouble in the winter.

My cousins chalmers did that after he got some bad fuel, water contamination. Took some life off the pump he figured.

We had one do the same thing. Replaced the fuel pump on the right side of the engine block, the one with the hand pump you use when changing fuel filters. No problem after that.

My old IH 806 acts the same way (spins over good but does not get fuel - let it set for 5 or 10 min & it starts ).....but it's never been overhauled & has 25,000 hours on it - could be getting weak on compression , but i figured maybe the injector pump is due for a rebuild (it was rebuilt once , loooong time ago)

Does engine crank slow when trying to start? Rocking steering wheel back and forth helps in getting cranking speed up on JDs. This helps in releasing hydraulic pressure so engine can spin faster.

I had a 4230 that did the same thing. It would start great in the winter. It was an early one (74). JD mechanic told me that the early ones had a different head than the later ones and the valves don't seat properly to hold compression when hot. I sold it before doing anything about it. Is yours an early model?

i've got a 1755 oliver that does the same thing. I was told it is the fuel shut off valve inside the pump. Due to close tolerance the pin or needle inside sticks and engine gets no fuel. no fuel smoke when cranking. it cools off and starts fine. Maybe sometimes a light tap on the inj. pump might work. it's a roosa master pump. dont have a clue what a 4230 has, might be similar.
