I've been thinking about him, I've had colon cancer, and started to write back to him and didn't, and have been kicking myself since....I'm just wondering if he's reading this.
If so, holler and lets visit....

My Grandpa died at 62. My Mom has had parts of her colon removed at 60+. My brother has had a polyp removed at 36. I had my first colonoscopy five years ago at 32 they found nothing. I get to go back this year. They give you some nice drugs. You're not even aware of what’s going on. Not that bad. Stuff you drink bad tastes, You also get air pumped into you and it feels uncomfortable for a little bit after words, but what can you expect when having a butt probe. Mom has had colon cancer twice when she was 50 they remove a couple of feet of colon. 15 years later they remove some more colon. Colon cancer is a very slow growing cancer which makes it one of the best to fight. With my history I just assume that someday they will find some. If my Mom can go every year and get her colon scope for her kids and grandkids and go through chemotherapy for six months. I can do the same. Get on the phone and get it taken care of. If you need help I sure this site will give you support. Just no posting pictures of you in hospital gown. Take care.

I have done it twice. They removed 7 the first time and two were the type that could couse problems so I had to do it again three years later. There were three that time but none of the bad ones. So I don't go back for five years. Like was said, drinking the gal. of salty tasting junk the night before is by far the hardest part. Some Doctors give other type of prep medications. The exam is not bad at all. If you are worred about it just tell the anesthesiologist you don't want to know anything about it and you will wake up in the recovery room when it's over. Get it done, It may save your life.

A colonoscopy is no big deal. GET IT DONE!!! Just don't eat much 2 days before and it is a no big deal. The worst part is drinking that stuff.

That poor fellow with terminal colon cancer had posted on the neutered topic in the tool area of this site. I'm trying to work up the bravery to get checked. The horror stories of the inhuman methods used in the old days I hope are all a thing of the past. When waiting to get neutered a healthy vigorous young looking 70 year old was also waiting in pre-op. We got to talking and it has scared me something awful. He had no symptoms, no family history and always ate right, never smoked, exercised and wasn't over weight. His new doctor insisted on a checkup scoping. That 70 year old has a slim chance of long term survival and will need to wear a bag for some time if not the rest of his life. The wife lost her Grandmother and I've lost both Grandmothers and an Aunt to colon cancer. An Uncle, my Mother and Father have had polyps removed. So my children and myself come from a long line of sick *ssholes. So go and get checked, don’t be a wimp like me.

My family has a history of cancer and it UGLY!!! Baby brother had 20 polyps at age 26, my Dad at 68 has 12 removed.

Scared all of us so we all got checked.

buickanddeer - by your own admission you have experienced the results first hand. JUST GIT 'R DONE!!

When I have my check ups the doc gave me 3 options
a) local anastetic (sp?)
b) twilight - dreamy state
c) knock out.

I chose option C as I told doc I did not even want to know he had been there. Not bad and it is CHEAP INSURANCE compared to the alternative.

On another note I have a buddy of mine that had prostate cancer. They thought they got it all and he was in remission for 3 yrs. It is now back with VENGENCE. I am going to see him this coming wx - he now has it on his lungs, liver and intestines. Not a good situation at ALL. He and his family are on our prayer list.

I had a colonoscopy last year at 68. I had a new doc and he recomended it. The old one had never mentioned it. They found one polyp and it had cancer cells on it. Coulda knocked me over with a feather. They did two more thru the summer, no sign of any more. I go for another one in a month.

Its the most curable form of cancer if found early. I had it seven years ago. Everyone over fifty should have a colonispy. It could save your life. Sorry about the spelling.

Like most people I dreaded a colonoscopy but finaly did it and I have to say it wasn't that bad. You used to have to drink a gallon of stuff to clean you out but now it's three ounces of phospho-soda with iced tea or leomonade. The worst part was only eating jello for about 24 hours. The actual proceedure I don't remember thanks to the drugs they administer. So if your of a "certain age" get'er done. Think of it as a date with Cameron Diaz.
