My oil pump is clogged and I can't get the oil pan off. I don't want to bend the pan and prying on it does not seem to be working, is there a trick to getting it off or do I just keep prying at it.? Thanks Dan Ca.

Melt the permatex with a torch.

I believe there are 18 - 5/16 bolts and 1 nut holding the pan. Count the ones you've removed. There's 3 in the rear that's sometimes overlooked.

How do you know the pump is clogged if you can't get the pan off to look ????? Anyhow I'd check the oil pump cover for warpage and blowed gasket, and shaft for wear I have had several Farmalls leak off oil pressure there.

Off what? There is a big difference between a pan on a farmall M and a ford explorer

Sounds like someone used some kind of sealer on the gasket. Do as suggested with a good narrow putty knife and be patient.

Yep, sounds like someone got heavy handed with a tube of permatex. You can even tap the putty knife with a rubber hammer. I hate that stuff.

Good Luck

First, make sure you have located and removed all the bolts. Usually there are a couple hidden
right up in the corner next to the rear and front main bearings. After that, try driving a sharpened putty knife between the pan and block in as many places around the perimeter -- don't pry, that's whats distorts the sheet metal.
