I have 2 trucks with good 350 cummins engines in them and would like to transplant one into a larger tractor. Looking to find a tractor in need of repowering. thanks.

Also be aware that the OTR engines will only have a limiting speed govenor installed, while an ag application should have a variable speed govenor. That can be changed, should you look around enough to find one. Best of luck.

I have a 1985 Steiger Panther KM360 that uses the 855 turboed and intercooled at 360 hp. Many of the Steiger models used the Cummins engine. Others used the Cat engines.

The JD 8960 uses the Cummins 855 rated at 370 HP. The 8970 is similar except with a 400 HP rating.

Also the CIH/Steiger 9280 uses the 855 rated at 375 HP.

FWIW last the farm where I help out occasionally swapped a 475 HP, twin turbo 855 salvaged from an OTR truck into an 8960. It works great!

Versatile tractors have about the most open design for engine swapping of the major 4X4 tractors I am familiar with. The engine is mounted free of the transmission, making swapping easy.

Many of their "800 series" models used the "855" Cummins. The "900" and certain other models in the "900" series used the less durable, and now exhorbitant to repair "903 V-8". One of those, with a bad engine would be PERFECT to graft an "855" into

In recent years the 855 has been used in many more tractors than before. Kinze has repower kits for older JDs like the 8x30, 40, 50 series. Look at Steiger, Versatile, maybe some IH. I put an 855 in a Case 2470, but since it had pto it was quite involved with the wet clutch and powershift transmission. Older Case like 1470, you can do a bolt-in conversion without a special adapter plate, but I think it involved halves of two different brand bell housings, one half being a Ford. Story was in old FarmShow magazine.

Certain Steiger tractors use this engeine and it is also used {I think} in certain Kinze repowers.

Catskill Tractor was one of our main competetors 20-25 years ago - before Walker took over. That's back when Ivan Walker had a permanent ad in the paper "wanted tractors - don't have to run" and had the auction barn down the road from Catskill. I assume that Frank is Ivan's son? I worked for the local Deere dealer (Oneonta), founded by a chicken farmer, Jim Lane, and we had "friendly" competition around like Able Equipment (Case), and Hardy Hanson (West End Implement IH), and Duffy Mohar (Allis Chalmers), and then the "not so friendly" like Catskill Tractor (Massey Ferguson) and Ecklund (Ford). I used to go to the equipment dealer's Christmas dinner every year, I kind of miss those days - and I guess most of the old tractor bosses are dead.
