I have a 411 Discbine but my tractor does not have the HP to use it. The MF 255 is 53hp and the Discbine need a min of 80. I do have a line on a older NH Haybine in good shape, I cut mostly Timothy and Orchard grass. Will I get bye ok with this? Thanks in advance..... ...

I use my 400 Farmall and pull a NH461 or NH469 in all kinds of hay without any problems. The 400 is rated at 50 hp and I routinely cut in high second. Shouldn't be a problem with your MF225.

I do not know anything about a 411.

You asked about a haybine. Back in the 70's, when my dad was still farming we had a NH 479 that we pulled with a Oliver super 77 gas.
We run the tractor in 3rd gear and cut alfalfa brome mix. I'm talking tall first cutting.

That tractor handled that haybine over hills as well as flat ground, and did a excellent job.

Now days everyone wants a cab with A/C and radio.

I would rather go back to the S77 and 479.

I should have mentioned that I did cut a small field with the 255 and NH 411 combo.I had to go very slow and It did cut ok, I'm just worried if I keep using it that it might damage my engine. I thought mabey if a Haybine would do a decent job cutting i'd pick one up and save my tractor.

If you can turn the discbine, you'll have no trouble with a haybine. I've seen an 8350 CIH mower conditioner (12 foot) run on a Ford 3910 (42 PTO hp). It was a load, but ran OK. Te 9 foot on 11 more hp should be quite alright. Good luck.

We used a 1965 Ford 5000 (55 hp diesel) with good results on a NH 469. A 1966 Ford 3000 (32 hp gas) had all it wanted to do in a medium wt stand of mixed grass. Your 255 should be ok.

I use a farmall 706 and a NH 469 Haybine to cut my hay, which is alfalfa, timothy, and orchard grass mix. Mine works great. I also mow with a John Deere 2440. Both tractors work great.

Thanks for all your help, This morning I bought a vintage NH 467 haybine, it's in nice shape and the price was right at 900 bucks. The ol'timer I bought if from said he needed a newer 12' one because his "roids" can't take the seat time anymore lol... I figure i'll sell the Discbine and pay for the haybine and a lifetime supply of Preperation H :)

Are all NH Haybine 467s the same? in reply to roper6365, 06-11-2005 13:12:22
I just bought one and I can't figure out how to adjust the roll pressure. The picture [and directions] in the [shabbily copied] owners manual do not match the machine in that the roll tension adjustment bolt does not exist, nor a hole for it! Maybe there are parts missing [there is a threaded stud sticking out that is not shown in the manual picture either] or there was a change early in the model run that was not reflected in the 22 page manual that came with the machine [serial # 111135]. NH customer service and the local dealer are no help. May I please trouble someone for an opinion?
