I have a garden tractor serial #41-014-5052. The model number is unable to be read. On the side of the hood it says Dayton 18 H.P. Hydrostatic. I am looking for bearings for the mower deck and am having difficulty. The deck is a three blade approx. 50 to 56 inches. Any info on manufacturer or where else model number could be located would be appreciated.

Daytons were"Gilsons"(old)and newer ones MTDs.Unknown current builder bur suspect still MTD.Number you posted appears to fit MTD corporate numbering, measure across underside of deck at inside of shell, for appx cut.I seem to recall MTD "18/48"& "18/54" decks back when 18HPs were the "big" tractors.Complete Spindle assys should be available, also the individual components(shafts, spacers, bearings, housings). Not hard /expensive to rebuild, but a hydraulic press greatly simplifies the job as these are"press fitted assemblies".NAPA,Car Quest or any reputable lawn and garden shop should be able to get these parts/assys for you as they are common.

If you can get it off, probably your NAPA dealer can get a replacement or tell you where if they don't stock.

If you can take bearings out, best bet would be to take them to a Bearing house & get them matched up. Usually much cheaper then going to a power equipment dealer. Once, I need a wheel bearing for an old Landcruiser. Toyota dealer price was over 40 dollars, but it was not in stock. I went across town to the bearing place, got one for 4 dollars & change. If you are in the Southeast, Bearing Distributors,Inc. is a great chain of stores. Most towns have a similar dealer that should be able to help.

davis has got the right idea. i have a older ford with a 50" deck. i had a machinist buddy make me new spindles, and i went to a place that specializes in bearings. cost was way less and easyier than dealing with not so smart lawn and garden counter people{at least they are in my area}perry in michigan
