We have an 01 Silverado (48,000 mi) that has developed a problem with the accelerator sticking ocasionally. It seems to be the throttle plate sticking in the bore of the intake, I just put a thin film of grease in the bore and it seemed to help but probably wont for long, anyone else have a problem like this? Thanks in advance

That has become a common problem usually from a gummy buildup around the throttle plate. I spray with carb clearner and wipe out as best I can with a rag but it always comes back. I have found that the middle grade gas helps some.

I would not use any chemical that does not say "safe for oxygen sensors".

Either clean as BGuy said, or just remove the throttle boby and clean with an aerosol carb cleaner. I seem to do a half dozen or so a year at work. Some get pretty bad at sticking.

I have seen these develop a ridge right around the top of the inside bore of the intake. Makes the throttle plate hang especially when letting off the gas easy. The ridge looks like carbon or something, It can be removed with paint thinner, carb cleaner or etc on a rag. Just reach in there and scrub it until it's gone.

My "99 Silverado did the same thing. I cleaned it with WD-40 when it got bad and that helped for a while. It also developed a spark knock. One mechanic said nothing he could do. Just had to run premium gasoline.

Another mechanic recomended that he do what he called a 3 stage fuel system cleaning. Don"t know what all that entails but it was right at $ 100 with labor and all. It cured any sticking with the throttle ,no more spark knock, cured a hesitation that the truck had developed and increased my power and fuel mileage.

I mean to tell you there is a huge difference in performance.

Might want to look into it !

By the way , I have 99k miles on my Silverado and now she runs like new. I even have the original brake pads on it.

I am looking at trading for a new extended cab what with the special pricing right now.

Hope this helps !

Thank you all very much, when I get this many replies that all indicate the same thing its encouraging, by the way, if you like your GM so well why do you call yourself the Ford man?
