Mobil has changed them packaging on 1. Now advertise "extended change interval". Anybody know if there is a real difference? It's more expensive.

Thanks for the replies folks.

When Mobil 1 first came out, they advertised 25,000 mile intervals. I suspect that Detroit put an end to that.

I have used Mobil 1 for over fifteen years changing oil every 22,500 and Hastings filters every 7500. So far I have driven an "83 Mazda PU and an "89 Cadillac Broughm 250,000 miles and a "95 GMC with 173,000 and a "97 Lexus with 94,000 and have never been into the engine on any of them. At 250,000 I figure I have gotten my money"s worth. I bought each one used with ~50,000 miles.

Now I am glad that the diesel rated is now 5w-40. That is what I will go to in the JD and Kubota. I figure they would go an easy 400 hrs, but I can"t seem to put that many on them in a year.

"Standard" Mobil 1 at the Walmart is $18. for 5 qts. "New and Improved" is $23. for 5 qts. What do I really get for the extra $5.00?

I have noticed that they have done a better job on the low end which means that you can use your heavy duty oil in the winter also and get fast starts; something that the 15w-40(50) couldn't do for you.

When they now say 0w-40 they mean that it will always pour regardless of the temp where you are; doesn't mean that it disappears. Got that off the Mobil web site.

Read the fine print on the bottle , and when running oil this long don't forget to change filters as required the oil may last but the filter won't. and with synthetic oils you can streach them to 100,000 miles easy I know of a small fleet that uses amsoil and they can go that far between changes by using lab samples and bypass filters they have trucks with over 1 million miles on them and have no oil problems doing this.

Just retired from truck co that has gone to 30000 mile oil change with cat blessing. Oil is a snythetic. Is sampled every time.Trucks are greased every 7500 miles an antifrese is checked every 7500 miles.Very important that farmers do that also. (ph-nitrites-freeze pt)Old oil is useto heat shop.IDLING is frowned on.

The Mobil oil site says that all three (5000 mile pure mineral oil)(7500 mile mineral and synthetic blend) (15000 mile pure synthetic mobil 1) have had the additive package content increased about 30% to protect the engine with longer change intervals. I have not tried them yet,as I still have old stock/formula of Mobil 1 that I use in all my gas engines. FWIW I did oil analasis of the old formula Mobil 1 pure synthetic at 3-6-9-12,000 miles which said the oil was good for many more miles. I change it at 1 year, usually about 12-14,000 miles.Been doing that for over 20 years without an engine problem. An independent test of mobil 1 old formula showed that the additive package was about used up at 18,000 miles. below is a link to the Mobil site

Dunno. May be that they have had time obtain test or fleet data to support the ad. I extended my drains when using it. I pay attention to color nowdays, not time or mileage.

mobil has come out with oils that go 5k, 10k and 15k before needing to be changed. they still have the plain ole Mobil 1 that has always been around, just need to look at the bottles a little closer to make sure you get the one you want. no thanks for me, i'll just keep changing every 3k on my gas motors and 5k on my diesels.
